Chemical Synthesis Of Zinc Oxide Nanorods And Their Transformation Intonanotubes, Pijus Kanti Samanta Jan 2019

Chemical Synthesis Of Zinc Oxide Nanorods And Their Transformation Intonanotubes, Pijus Kanti Samanta

Turkish Journal of Physics

A simple wet chemical method was successfully deployed to synthesize zinc oxide nanorods and nanotubes of hexagonal morphology. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed the formation of ZnO with almost equal atomic percentages of Zn and O atoms. The FESEM images confirmed the formation of ZnO nanorods and nanotubes of length 1.5 to 2 $\mu $m and diameter 500 nm to 1 $\mu $m. The growth of the nanorods saturated under the combined effect of ionic association of Zn$^{2+}$ and OH$^{-}$ ions, Gibbs' energy of the reaction, reaction temperature, and the enthalpy of the system. Further stirring led to dissolution resulting …

Size- And Composition-Dependent Structure Of Ternary Cd-Te-Se Nanoparticles, Mustafa Kurban Jan 2018

Size- And Composition-Dependent Structure Of Ternary Cd-Te-Se Nanoparticles, Mustafa Kurban

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this study, the geometrical, thermal, and energetic properties of zinc-blende CdTe1-xSex (x = 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75) nanoparticles were investigated using the bond order potential based on the modern classical molecular dynamics (MD) method. All MD simulations were performed using LAMMPS. Some physical properties were investigated, such as compositional variations of Cd, Te, and Se atoms; order parameter; radial distribution function; coordination number; potential energy; and heat capacity (Cv). The simulation results were compared with the available experimental results. The obtained results revealed that an increase in the composition of Se atoms can provide contributions to stability, which is …

Metals And Metal Oxides Particles Produced By Pulsed Laser Ablation Under High Vacuum, Khurram Siraj, Yasir Sohail, Aasma Tabassum Jan 2011

Metals And Metal Oxides Particles Produced By Pulsed Laser Ablation Under High Vacuum, Khurram Siraj, Yasir Sohail, Aasma Tabassum

Turkish Journal of Physics

A pulsed KrF Excimer laser (248 nm, 15 mJ) was utilized to synthesize different particles on (111) Si substrate under vacuum \sim 10^{-6} torr using Aluminum (Al), Platinum (Pt), Tungsten (W), Molybdenum (Mo), Cadmium Oxide (CdO), and Yttrium Oxide (Y_2O_3) targets. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study particle size distribution on silicon substrate. The size of individual metal particles was found to be ranging from 71 nm to 2 \mu m whereas metal oxides particles were found in the range of 71 nm to 1.1 \mu m. The particles below 100 nm are formed by gas phase condensation …

Optical Characterization Of Fe^{3+} Doped Cds Nanoparticles Synthesized By Wet-Chemical Route, Seyed Mohammad Taheri Otaqsara, Mohammad Hassan Yousefi, Ali Azam Khosravi Jan 2011

Optical Characterization Of Fe^{3+} Doped Cds Nanoparticles Synthesized By Wet-Chemical Route, Seyed Mohammad Taheri Otaqsara, Mohammad Hassan Yousefi, Ali Azam Khosravi

Turkish Journal of Physics

Fe^{3+} doped CdS nanoparticles using Mercaptoethanol as a capping agent were prepared by colloidal wet-chemical method. UV-VIS spectra show that Fe-doping can effectively tune energy band structure, i.e. a large blue shift (\sim 30 nm) with increasing Fe concentration. PL measurement of doped CdS nanoparticles shows an additional emission band at \sim 532 nm, which can be due to radiative transition of dopant level to ground state. X-ray diffraction patterns studies revealed cubic crystal phase. TEM micrographs show a spherical shape and nearly well distribution with an average particle size of \sim 4 nm.

Au Nanoparticle Clusters: A New System To Model Hopping Conduction, Ç. Kurdak, J. Kim, L. A. Farina, K. M. Lewis, X. Bai, M. P. Rowe, A. J. Matzger

Turkish Journal of Physics

We study electrical transport through self-assembled Au nanoparticle clusters which can be viewed as a new model system to study hopping transport. The physics of such systems is governed by two parameters: the charging energy and tunnel coupling between the particles. The charging energy is determined by the size of the nanoparticles. When the diameter of the nanoparticles is less than 4-5 nm the charging energy is large enough that Coulomb blockade effects were observed in electrical transport even at room temperature. The magnitude of the tunnel coupling between the particles was determined by the thiol coating used. To study …
