Particle Injection Simulation On Cold Spray Technology, Christopher A. Santini
Particle Injection Simulation On Cold Spray Technology, Christopher A. Santini
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a useful tool when it comes to research in the fields of Aerodynamics, Turbomachinery, and is used in several other fields of research. CFD is an important tool in the engineering industry because it allows for understanding and evaluation of a new design, this can lead to advancements in developing a more efficient and effective design. This tool helps in the understanding of the flow phenomena and how it can interact with its surroundings. One of the main reasons in the use of CFD is to reduce the cost of testing a design by running …
Repairable Moment-Resisting Steel Buildings, Heath William Pederson
Repairable Moment-Resisting Steel Buildings, Heath William Pederson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Current seismic design codes ensure life safety for buildings, but structural members may significantly yield or even fail under strong earthquakes. A new design approach is to implement connections that localize the yielding and failure to fuses. A more sophisticated approach is to be able to replace the fuses after the event. The present study was carried out to develop repairable moment-resisting (MR) connections for steel buildings and to investigate their seismic performance through nonlinear finite element analyses (FEA). Two details were proposed using buckling restrained fuses (BRFs) and buckling restrained reinforcement (BRR). Test data was collected from the literature …
A Study Of Several Applications Of Parallel Computing In The Sciences Using Petsc, Nicholas Stegmeier
A Study Of Several Applications Of Parallel Computing In The Sciences Using Petsc, Nicholas Stegmeier
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The importance of computing in the natural sciences continues to grow as scientists strive to analyze complex phenomena. The dynamics of turbulence, astrophysics simulations, and climate change are just a few examples where computing is critical. These problems are computationally intractable on all computing platforms except supercomputers, necessitating the continued development of efficient algorithms and methodologies in parallel computing. This thesis investigates the use of parallel computing and mathematical modeling in the natural sciences through several applications, namely computational fluid dynamics for impinging jets in mechanical engineering, simulation of biofilms in an aqueous environment in mathematical biology, and the solution …
Simulation Of Magnetically Confined Inductively Coupled Plasma, Sina Javadpour
Simulation Of Magnetically Confined Inductively Coupled Plasma, Sina Javadpour
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In this work, a new parallel coil design was presented to address the need for high density inductively coupled plasmas with enhanced properties and a more uniform and consistent distribution, suitable for large-area material processing. Fluid model simulations of 3D argon inductively coupled plasma (ICP) were performed in COMSOL for the proposed coil and a conventional single cylindrical coil with the same impedance to be used as reference, to compare and evaluate the performance of this new halftoroidal parallel coil design and study its effects on the main variables of the generated plasma. Through different comparisons of the simulations results, …
The Development Of A Solar Radiation Extinction Correction For Satellite Data, Widad I. Mohamed
The Development Of A Solar Radiation Extinction Correction For Satellite Data, Widad I. Mohamed
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The main objectives of this thesis are the following: 1) Remove the haze using water surfaces in Landsat satellite imagery of the visible and near-infrared regions for their properties of high absorption of solar radiation and weak reflection of it. The scattered solar radiation is most obvious in dark weakly reflecting regions such as water. The haze removal technique depends on subtraction of scattered light from picture elements within the satellite imagery. 2) Derive a formula and techniques for a given image to correct for extinction by transforming the observed intensity of the signal transmitted to the Landsat detector to …
The Modification And Use Of An Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectrometer For Data Collection At Liquid Nitrogen Temperature, Vernon Lee Baumberger
The Modification And Use Of An Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectrometer For Data Collection At Liquid Nitrogen Temperature, Vernon Lee Baumberger
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The scope of this study includes the modification of an EPR spectrometer for acquisition of low temperature data. The modification involved adaptation of the system for use with a cylindrical cavity specifically designed for low temperature operation. This modification increased the capability of the present system for data collection at liquid nitrogen temperature and gave such greater stability than the rectangular cavity previously used. A comparison was made of signal to noise for the two cavities. This study showed a somewhat greater signal to noise ratio for the low temperature cylindrical cavity. Operation at low temperature also allowed the observation …
Derivation Of The Diffusion Equation And A Revision Of Matsuda's Theory For Polarography, W. Patrick Rahilly
Derivation Of The Diffusion Equation And A Revision Of Matsuda's Theory For Polarography, W. Patrick Rahilly
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many theories have been proposed to yield a current-time relationship in Polarography. The most widely accepted is that of Matsuda. He assumes that the electrolyte can be separated into an inhomogeneous region about the mercury drop and a homogeneous region elsewhere. This assumption leads to a first order , nonlinear, ordinary differential equation directly solvable by substitution of a properly chosen series. But the series solution obtained is only a particular solution; for there exists, as one would expect, a family of solutions depending on a contrast of integration. In the literature, derivation of the diffusion equation has never been …
