Electric Dipole Oscillator Strengths Of Boron, Gökhan Tekeli̇, Şule Ateş, Gülteki̇n Çeli̇k Jan 2008

Electric Dipole Oscillator Strengths Of Boron, Gökhan Tekeli̇, Şule Ateş, Gülteki̇n Çeli̇k

Turkish Journal of Physics

Electric dipole oscillator strengths for both individual and multiplet lines between some excited levels of atomic boron are calculated using the Weakest Bound Electron Potential Model Theory (WBEPMT). The Numerical Coulomb Approximation wave functions for expectation values of radii in all states and experimental ionization energies have been employed to determinate the parameters. The obtained results from this work agree very well with the accepted values taken from NIST, Multi-Configurational Hartree-Fock (MCHF) results and atomic line data.

Dielectric Dispersion In Pbo-Bi_2o_3-B_2o_3 Glasses Mixed With Tio_2, P. Venkateswara Rao, M. Srinivasa Reddy, Vandana Ravi Kumar, Y. Gandhi, Nalluri Veeraiah

Turkish Journal of Physics

[(PbO)_{0.20-x} . (Bi_2O_3)_{0.40} . (B_2O_3)_{0.40}]: (TiO_2)_x, 0.0 =< x =< 0.02 glasses were prepared. Dielectric properties (dielectric constant \varepsilon \prime, loss tan \delta and a.c. conductivity \sigma_{ac}, over a wide range of frequency and temperature), optical absorption, ESR and IR spectra of these glass materials have been investigated. The dielectric study has revealed that the glasses possess high insulating strength when TiO_2 concentration is >0.8 mol% in the glass matrix. The optical absorption spectra of these glasses exhibited bands due to Ti^{3+} ions in the visible region. ESR spectral studies have also indicated that a fraction of Ti^{4+} ions reduced to Ti^{3+} ions. IR spectra of these glasses exhibited bands due to TiO_4 and TiO_6 structural units. Quantitative studies indicate that as concentration of TiO_2 is increased to 0.8 mol% in the glass matrix, a large proportion of titanium ions exist in Ti^{3+} state and has influenced the physical properties of these glasses to a substantial …

Ionization Rate, Temperature, And Number Density For Breakdown Waves With A Large Current Behind The Shock Front, S. Norman, Mostafa Hemmati, J. King Jan 2008

Ionization Rate, Temperature, And Number Density For Breakdown Waves With A Large Current Behind The Shock Front, S. Norman, Mostafa Hemmati, J. King

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

A three component, one-dimensional, constant velocity, steady-state fluid model is employed to describe the breakdown waves with a current behind the wave front propagating into a neutral gas subjected to an external electric field. Electron gas partial pressure is much larger than that of the other species and therefore is considered to provide the driving force for the wave. The system of equations includes the equations of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy coupled with Poisson’s equation. Inclusion of current behind the wave front in the system of fluid equations also alters the initial boundary conditions and ionization rate. We …

Ac Conductivity And Ultrasonic Studies In Khco_3 Compound, Fathy Salman, Sayed Abouelhassan, Eslam Sheha, Mabrouk Elmansy

Turkish Journal of Physics

The total conductivity of KHCO_3 compound is studied in the frequency range 50 Hz-1 MHz and in the temperature range 300-370 K. The conductivity frequency dependence relation is divided into three regions: one at low frequency (dc conductivity), while the others appear at a moderate and relatively higher frequency range. In general, the conductivity frequency dependence conductivity obeys a double power law relation, \sigma_{tot} = \sigma_{dc} + A\omega^p + B\omega^q. The powers p and q have been found to be in the range 0 to 1 and 1 to 2, respectively. The attenuation coefficient \beta of KHCO_3 compound was studied …

Masses Of Charged Leptons And Gauge Mixing Parameters, Cvavb Chandra Raju Jan 2008

Masses Of Charged Leptons And Gauge Mixing Parameters, Cvavb Chandra Raju

Turkish Journal of Physics

It is shown that the electroweak physics of the electron and the muon is based on the left-right gauge model with the mixing parameters 0.2254 and 0.2746. These mixing parameters are determined by the masses of the electron and the muon. The electroweak physics of the Tau-lepton and its left-handed neutrino is based on the gauge group SU(2)_L XU(1).The mixing parameter for this gauge model is 0.5 and is determined by the mass of the charged Tau-lepton. The W and Z bosons that mediate the electroweak physics of Tau-lepton and its neutrino have masses 173.5 GeV and 245.4 GeV, respectively.

Effects Of Opacity On Stellar Radii And Their Relevance To Observational Data, Gülay İnlek, Aysun Böke, Oktay Yilmaz, Edwin Budding

Turkish Journal of Physics

We have examined the effect of varying opacities on envelope structure with the aid of Paczynski's public domain stellar modelling programs. For this, we prepared new opacity tables from the data of Kurucz [1], using Lagrange interpolation to obtain the tabular values. We compare the results of these Kurucz opacities with similar tabulations from Huebner et al. [2], Iglesias and Rogers [3], Rogers and Iglesias [4] and Iglesias and Rogers [5]. We have checked calculations for the same ranges of stars considered originally by Schwarzschild [6], and compared our findings, using newer opacity data, with those of other sources. We …

The Energy Spectrum Of Two-Electron Semiconductor Quantum Dots, Mohammad K. Elsaid Jan 2008

The Energy Spectrum Of Two-Electron Semiconductor Quantum Dots, Mohammad K. Elsaid

Turkish Journal of Physics

The ground-state properties of a two-dimensional quantum-dot are studied. We have used the shifted 1/N expansion method to solve the relative part Hamiltonian of two electrons confined in a quantum in the presence of an applied uniform magnetic field. The spin singlet-triplet transition in the ground state of the QD is shown. We have also displayed the singlet-triplet energy gap, J = \Delta = E_T - E_S, against the strength of the magnetic field for two electron quantum dot. Based on comparisons, the eigenenergies obtained by the shifted method are in excellent agreement with exact, variational, Hartree-Fock (HF) and Full-Configuration …

Structural And Elastic Properties Of Mgx (X=Se, Te) Semi Conducting Compounds Under High Pressure, Purvee Bhardwaj, Sadhna Singh, Neeraj Kumar Gaur Jan 2008

Structural And Elastic Properties Of Mgx (X=Se, Te) Semi Conducting Compounds Under High Pressure, Purvee Bhardwaj, Sadhna Singh, Neeraj Kumar Gaur

Turkish Journal of Physics

In the present paper, we have investigated the high-pressure structural phase transition of magnesium chalcogenides using the three-body potential (TBP) model. Phase transition pressures are associated with a sudden collapse in volume. The phase transition pressures and associated volume collapses obtained from TBP are in reasonably good agreement with experimental data. In addition, the elastic constants and their combinations with pressure are also reported. It is found that TBP has promise to predict phase transition pressure, elastic constants, and their pressure derivatives for other chalcogenides as well.

Critical State Models For Intergrain Junctions Of Polycrystalline Superconductors By Third Harmonic Ac Susceptibility Measurements, Ioseb R. Metskhvarishvili

Turkish Journal of Physics

High harmonic response of high-T_c and Chevrel-phase polycrystalline superconductors are measured in the presence of small ac excitation field and dc magnetic field applied on it. The aim of this work is to study the Josephson weak link behavior and compare the two systems in order to understand the granular nature of polycrystalline superconductors. Critical state models are used to explain the nonlinear magnetic response in polycrystalline superconductors.

Nonlinear Two-Mode Squeezed Vacuum States As Realization Of Su(1,1) Lie Algebra, Gamal Mohamed Abd Al-Kader, Abdel-Shafy Fahmy Obada

Turkish Journal of Physics

Nonlinear extensions of the two-mode squeezed vacuum states (NTMSVS's) are constructed and special cases of these states are discussed. We have constructed the NTMSVS's realization of SU(1,1) Lie algebra. Two cases of the definition are considered for unitary and non-unitary deformation operator functions. Some nonclassical properties of these states are discussed.

Two-To-Four Coherent Beams Interference Patterns Of Non-Orthogonal Planes, Ali̇ekber Aktağ Jan 2008

Two-To-Four Coherent Beams Interference Patterns Of Non-Orthogonal Planes, Ali̇ekber Aktağ

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, we present an analysis of intensity distribution of interference pattern of two-to-four linearly polarized plane waves at their intersection in a plane surface. A configuration in which the four plane waves intersect at different angles along four non-orthogonal planes is considered. We show that the shape and the intensity distribution of the interference pattern is strong function of the angles of planes, kinds of polarizations, beam incidence angles. A variety of two-dimensional intensity distribution arrays have been formed by two-to-four beams with differing plane angles, angles of beam incidence and beam polarizations, which may potentially be useful …

Heat Capacity Anomalies Of Tlins_2 And Tlgas_2 Single Crystals Detected By Differential Scanning Calorimetry (Dsc), Muhammed Açikgöz

Turkish Journal of Physics

Specific heat capacity C_p anomalies of layered single crystals TlInS_2 and TlGaS_2 have been investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as a new technique for such crystals. Special features of C_p have been revealed in the temperature range of the possible phase transitions of both crystals. A sequence of maximum values of C_p is obtained at 163, 174, 184, 193, 201, 212, 224, 254, and 259 K for TlInS_2. In the case of TlGaS_2, the temperatures of the obtained maximum C_p values at 177 and 241 K agree well with the intervals of the phase transition temperatures reported in the …

Characterization Of Thin Film Al/P-Cdte Schottky Diode, M. G. Mahesha, V. B. Kasturi, G. K. Shivakumar

Turkish Journal of Physics

A study has been made on the behavior of Al/p-CdTe thin film junction grown by thermal evaporation method. I-V characteristics show that the Al makes Schottky contact with p-CdTe. The variation of junction capacitance with frequency and voltage has been studied to evaluate the barrier height. The activation energy and band gap have been estimated by studying variation of resistivity with temperature. Using all these data, band diagram of Al/p-CdTe has been proposed.

Calculated Pressure Induced Bcc-Fcc Phase Transitions In Alkali Metals, Hamdi̇ Dağistanli, Riza Haluk Mutlu

Turkish Journal of Physics

The partial occupation numbers and density of states (DOS), and the total DOS at the Fermi level are calculated as a function of reduced atomic volume for bcc and fcc alkali metals employing the linear-muffin-tin-orbital (LMTO) method. By means of the abrupt changes obtained in the partial and total DOS values at the Fermi level, good agreement with regard to experiment were found in predicting the bcc-fcc transition volumes of the alkali metals.

Nonlinear Process Between Co-Propagating Signal And Control Pulses In Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers, Jianwei Wu, Hai-Bo Bao Jan 2008

Nonlinear Process Between Co-Propagating Signal And Control Pulses In Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers, Jianwei Wu, Hai-Bo Bao

Turkish Journal of Physics

A nonlinear process between co-propagating signal and control pulses has been proposed and demonstrated numerically, based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA). Results show that a Gaussian signal pulse with picosecond duration can be simultaneously amplified and compressed in a SOA by utilizing a co-propagating high-intensity control pulse. To obtain high quality signal pulse with high peak power level and short pulse width, the center carrier wavelengths of two pulses should locate in the gain region of the SOA. The initial delay time between both pulses should be tuned suitably before entering the SOA.

Superconducting Phases In Bulk And Thin Film La2Cuo4, Brandon Green Jan 2008

Superconducting Phases In Bulk And Thin Film La2Cuo4, Brandon Green

Undergraduate Review

La2CuO4 is considered as the parent material of all high temperature superconductors. The magnetic nature of the material is antiferromagnetic and it is an insulator. During this research we produced a superconductor by doping ceramic La2CuO4 with excess oxygen. There are different methods to intercalate excess oxygen into a sample, but in this project we used an electrochemical method. After oxidation, the superconducting properties were measured using a Quantum Design MPMS SQUID magnetometer. The superconducting transition temperature (TC) was observed near 40 K with a superconducting volume fraction of 16%. Further oxidation …

Stability Of Hickson Groups Of Galaxies, Ibrahim Selim, Naseer Iqbal

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this work we have used the Viril theorem to investigate the dynamical stability of Hickson compact groups of galaxies. The average luminous mass of the galaxies member is approximately 1.3 \times 0^{11} M_{\odot} and average total luminous mass of group is approximately 4.6 \times 0^{11} M_{\odot}. The virial theorem has used to estimate the virial mass. The average Virial mass of group of galaxies is approximately 6.3 \times 0^{13} M_{\odot} This is attributed to the presence of large amount of dark matter which is more than 90% in this group. Hickson compact groups of galaxies are unstable system due …

High Pressure Phase Transition Of Copper Halides, Deoshree Baghmar, Neeraj Kumar Gaur, Sadhna Singh, Dinesh Chandra Gupta

Turkish Journal of Physics

The structural changes within copper halides induced by pressure from zinc-blend to rock-salt passing through an intermediate tetragonal structure have been investigated using an effective interionic interaction potential. The values of the phase transition pressures obtained by us for the copper halides are in good agreement with their available experimental data. We have also investigated the equation of state, which shows an appreciable volume collapses at the phase transition pressures.
