Peristaltic Pumping Of A Non-Newtonian Fluid, Amit Medhavi Jun 2008

Peristaltic Pumping Of A Non-Newtonian Fluid, Amit Medhavi

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The flow induced by sinusoidal peristaltic motion of the tube wall of a non-Newtonian fluid obeying Herschel-Bulkley equation (a general rheological equation that represents a powerlaw, Bingham and Newtonian fluid for particular choice of parameters) under long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximation is investigated. The results obtained for flow rate, pressure drop and friction force are discussed both qualitatively and quantitatively and compared with other related studies. It is found that the pressure drop increases with the flow rate and yield stress but decreases with the increasing amplitude ratio. The flow behaviour index shows significant impact on the magnitude …

Effects Of Finite Layer Thickness On The Differential Capacitance Of Electron Bilayers, J. J. Durrant Apr 2008

Effects Of Finite Layer Thickness On The Differential Capacitance Of Electron Bilayers, J. J. Durrant

McNair Scholars Research Journal

We have calculated the effects of finite thickness on electron or hole layers in double-quantum-well systems. In particular, we apply our model to calculate the Eisenstein ratio and the interlayer capacitance of a biased bilayer device; these are direct measures of the compressibility of the charge carriers in the layers. We show that our model agrees well with the experimental layer-occupancy data for a device of this type. We present results for the regime of negligible interlayer tunneling, zero applied magnetic field, and low layer densities, when the compressibility of one or both layers is negative.

Multiple Period Search For K, M And C Type Semiregular Variables In Tübi̇tak National Observatory, Cahi̇t Yeşi̇lyaprak, Ti̇mur Şahi̇n, Ahmet İskender

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this study, periods obtained from long-term multi-bands (Johnson V and R filters) photometric observations of some K, M and C spectral type semiregular (SR) variables obtained with the T40 telescope (40 cm) and SSP5A photometer at TÜBİTAK National Observatory (TNO) between 1998 and 2005 were examined. We have found that some of these SR variables have multiple (long and short) periods as appeared mostly from Hipparcos observations; three variables are, for the first time, observed to have a period. The light curves, the variation amplitude in R band and the maximum light Epoch(s) of SR variables were also given. …

Photo Organic Field Effect Transistor´S Properties, Khasan S. Karimov, Ibrahim N. Ibrahim, M. Mahroof Tahir, Tauseef Ahmed Khan, Umar Shafique

Turkish Journal of Physics

A thin organic films of p-type semiconducting copper phthalocynanine (CuPc) film and semitransparent Al film were deposited in sequence by vacuum evaporation on glass substrate with Ag source and drain electrodes, fabricating an organic field effect transistor with metal (aluminum)-semiconductor (copper phthalocyanine) Schottky junction. The transistor was investigated for effect of illumination on its characteristics. It was found that the gate-source (Al-Ag) and gate-drain (also Al-Ag) dark current-voltage characteristics show rectification behavior. Under non-modulated filament-lamp illumination, photo-potential is developed between gate-source and gate-drain terminals. Drain current of this organic phototransistor (OPT) increased with illumination. An energy band diagram of the …

Turkish Journal of Physics

Stability effects in photoconductivity (PC) rise and decay have been studied over a period of 2 years in thin films of (Cd-Pb)S:LiF, La/Pr and (Cd-Zn)S: LiF,La/Pr and have been found quite stable; however, those of CdS are not that stable. Results of annealing effect are also included, which present more stable values. XRD studies show prominent lines of base materials. Further, XRD and SEM studies show the particle sizes are in the nanometer range. Results of optical absorption spectra have been used to evaluate the band gap of the materials. Effect of thickness of the Ag electrode has also been …

Simultaneously Finite Size And Interaction Effects On A Harmonically Trapped ^{87}Rb Gas, Ahmed Sayed Hassan, Hassab Eldyeam Hadi Jan 2008

Simultaneously Finite Size And Interaction Effects On A Harmonically Trapped ^{87}Rb Gas, Ahmed Sayed Hassan, Hassab Eldyeam Hadi

Turkish Journal of Physics

In the framework of the semiclassical approximation (K_B T >> \hbar\Omega), an accurate ansatz formula for the density of states is suggested. This formula is able to include the finite size, interatomic interaction effects, and the role of dimensionality simultaneously. Condensed fraction, and average energy per particle for a condensed ^{87}Rb gas in anisotropic trap in 3D and 2D are calculated. The results for the above mentioned thermodynamic quantities show good agreement with the measured experimental results. Furthermore, full agreement is obtained with the other method used to calculate the same quantities.

Effects Of Opacity On Stellar Radii And Their Relevance To Observational Data, Gülay İnlek, Aysun Böke, Oktay Yilmaz, Edwin Budding

Turkish Journal of Physics

We have examined the effect of varying opacities on envelope structure with the aid of Paczynski's public domain stellar modelling programs. For this, we prepared new opacity tables from the data of Kurucz [1], using Lagrange interpolation to obtain the tabular values. We compare the results of these Kurucz opacities with similar tabulations from Huebner et al. [2], Iglesias and Rogers [3], Rogers and Iglesias [4] and Iglesias and Rogers [5]. We have checked calculations for the same ranges of stars considered originally by Schwarzschild [6], and compared our findings, using newer opacity data, with those of other sources. We …

The Energy Spectrum Of Two-Electron Semiconductor Quantum Dots, Mohammad K. Elsaid Jan 2008

The Energy Spectrum Of Two-Electron Semiconductor Quantum Dots, Mohammad K. Elsaid

Turkish Journal of Physics

The ground-state properties of a two-dimensional quantum-dot are studied. We have used the shifted 1/N expansion method to solve the relative part Hamiltonian of two electrons confined in a quantum in the presence of an applied uniform magnetic field. The spin singlet-triplet transition in the ground state of the QD is shown. We have also displayed the singlet-triplet energy gap, J = \Delta = E_T - E_S, against the strength of the magnetic field for two electron quantum dot. Based on comparisons, the eigenenergies obtained by the shifted method are in excellent agreement with exact, variational, Hartree-Fock (HF) and Full-Configuration …

Cell performance parameters were evaluated: open-circuit photopotential V_{ph}; and short-circuit photocurrent I_{ph}; series and shunt resistances R_{s} and R_{sh}; quantum conversion …

The Asymptotic Iteration Method For The Eigenenergies Of The Complex Potential V(X) = \Gamma X^4 + I \Beta X^3 + I \Alpha X, Abdallah Jamiel Sous Jan 2008

The Asymptotic Iteration Method For The Eigenenergies Of The Complex Potential V(X) = \Gamma X^4 + I \Beta X^3 + I \Alpha X, Abdallah Jamiel Sous

Turkish Journal of Physics

Recently, three complex potentials V(x) = i x^3,V(x) = i x^3 + i \alpha x, and V(x) = x^4 + i \alpha x have been studied in the literature. Here, we combine these potentials in one. With the aid of the asymptotic iteration method we have numerically calculated the eigenenergies of the new complex potential. The obtained numerical results are compared with those obtained by using the WKB, EMM, and MRF methods and found to be in an excellent agreement. We discuss how an adjustable parameter \zeta can help to improve our results.

Two-To-Four Coherent Beams Interference Patterns Of Non-Orthogonal Planes, Ali̇ekber Aktağ

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, we present an analysis of intensity distribution of interference pattern of two-to-four linearly polarized plane waves at their intersection in a plane surface. A configuration in which the four plane waves intersect at different angles along four non-orthogonal planes is considered. We show that the shape and the intensity distribution of the interference pattern is strong function of the angles of planes, kinds of polarizations, beam incidence angles. A variety of two-dimensional intensity distribution arrays have been formed by two-to-four beams with differing plane angles, angles of beam incidence and beam polarizations, which may potentially be useful …
