Algorithmic Design And Computational Modeling Using Dynamic Spectrum Allocation Techniques To Optimize Bandwidth Management In Wireless Communication Systems, Ankit Walishetti
Algorithmic Design And Computational Modeling Using Dynamic Spectrum Allocation Techniques To Optimize Bandwidth Management In Wireless Communication Systems, Ankit Walishetti
Distinguished Student Work
This study aims to address the pressing need for efficient spectrum management methodologies in wireless communication systems by developing innovative sorting and allocation algorithms. Leveraging Dynamic Spectrum Allocation (DSA) techniques, this research devises strategies to optimize the utilization of bandwidth within existing spectrum space, ultimately reducing the need for network infrastructure expansion.
Ensuring thorough coverage of DSA techniques, 5 distinct transmitter sorting algorithms were programmed and tested across 8 performance metrics designed to measure specific capabilities. For consistency, a single bandwidth allocation program was designed to ‘pack’ transmitters starting from the left endpoint of the spectrum space. Progressively varying the …
Mastery Based Grading For Secondary Mathematics, Anderson Trimm
Mastery Based Grading For Secondary Mathematics, Anderson Trimm
Professional Learning Day
Dr. Trimm will discuss in detail his design and implementation of a mastery grading system in calculus at IMSA and how it offers many benefits over traditional grading. Dr. Trimm will also explain how it makes creating assessments and grading easier and less work for the teacher, while being more accurate.
On The Relationship Between Pain Variability And Relief In Randomized Clinical Trials, Siddharth Tiwari '22
On The Relationship Between Pain Variability And Relief In Randomized Clinical Trials, Siddharth Tiwari '22
Student Publications & Research
Previous research suggests greater baseline variability is associated with greater pain relief in those who receive a placebo. However, studies that evidence this association do not control for confounding effects (natural history and regression-to-the-mean); for this reason, we analyzed data from two randomized clinical trials (Placebo I and Placebo II, N = 134) while adjusting for confounding effects via a no-treatment group. Results agree between the two placebo groups: both placebo groups showed a negligible correlation between baseline variability and adjusted response (r sp (CI 95% ) = 0.13 (−0.09, 0.37) and 0.01 (−0.15, 0.20) for Placebo I and II, …

Non-Academic Support Math Faculty Members Provide In Developmental Accelerated And Corequisite Support Courses In California Community Colleges, David Vakil '92
Non-Academic Support Math Faculty Members Provide In Developmental Accelerated And Corequisite Support Courses In California Community Colleges, David Vakil '92
Doctoral Dissertations
To guide practitioners of rapidly evolving developmental math reform in community colleges, this study surveyed California community college math faculty who taught accelerated developmental courses or corequisite support courses. The survey was conducted during the early implementation phase of both course types, during spring and fall 2018 terms. This study measured faculty’s self-reported provision of forms of non-academic support, frequency of implementation, and reasons faculty believed the support would help students succeed. The literature review guided grouping non-academic support into five forms: nurturing, helping students’ motivation, providing a growth mindset theory of intelligence, helping provide social integration, and helping to …
Supporting Our Struggling Students: Details Of A Hybrid Mathematics Summer Bridge Program, Anita White, Patrick Davis, Marti Shirley
Supporting Our Struggling Students: Details Of A Hybrid Mathematics Summer Bridge Program, Anita White, Patrick Davis, Marti Shirley
Faculty Publications & Research
It goes without saying that the schools in the consortium are used to dealing with gifted and talented students. However with such high-caliber students, we also have high expectations. What resources do we offer to the students who struggle at our institutions? This presentation will detail the setup and results of EXCEL2 - a summer bridge program offered at the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy to help students who were unable to meet course expectations. The program operated through a hybrid online/in-person model - with instruction primarily given through video conferencing but coupled with an on-campus experience.

A Psychometric Investigation Of A Mathematics Placement Test At A Science, Technology, Engineering, And Mathematics (Stem) Gifted Residential High School, Hannah Ruth Anderson
Publications & Research
Educational institutions, at all levels, must justify their use of placement testing and confront questions of their impact on students’ educational outcomes to assure all stakeholders that students are being enrolled in courses appropriate with their ability in order to maximize their chances of success (Linn, 1994; Mattern & Packman, 2009; McFate & Olmsted III, 1999; Norman, Medhanie, Harwell, Anderson, & Post, 2011; Wiggins, 1989). The aims of this research were to (1) provide evidence of Content Validity, (2) provide evidence of Construct Validity and Internal Consistency Reliability, (3) examine the item characteristics and potential bias of the items between …

Using Robotics And Engineering Design Inquiries To Optimize Learning For Middle Level Teachers: A Case Study, Iman Chafik Chahine, Norman Robinson Iii, Kimbeni Mansion
Publications & Research
This exploratory case study reports findings on 20 middle-level science and mathematics teachers’ perceptions of the effectiveness of a one-year project in which teachers engaged in using robotics and engineering design inquiries in their classrooms. Principled by Bandura’s Social Learning Theory (SLT) and using mixed methods approaches, the study measured teachers' efficacy through the Mathematics Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument (MTEBI) and observation logs before and after the program. The results of this study showed statistically significant differences between PRE MTEBI and POST MTEBI scores. Furthermore, five themes emerged that illuminated potential affordances and constraints that teachers perceive as opportunities and …
