Atmospheric Circulation And Cyclone Frequency Variations Linked To The Primary Modes Of Greenland Snow Accumulation, Jeffrey C. Rogers, Deborah J. Bathke, Ellen Mosley-Thompson, Sheng-Hung Wang Dec 2004

Atmospheric Circulation And Cyclone Frequency Variations Linked To The Primary Modes Of Greenland Snow Accumulation, Jeffrey C. Rogers, Deborah J. Bathke, Ellen Mosley-Thompson, Sheng-Hung Wang

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Data from 34 Greenland firn cores, extending from 1982 to 1996, are used to identify spatial accumulation variability patterns and their associated atmospheric circulation and cyclone frequencies. The first principal component, representing west-central Greenland accumulation, is correlated to NAO variability, having increased southwesterly (northeasterly) flow over that area during high (low) accumulation winters. The flow is linked to a relative increase in cyclone activity on the west central region of the ice sheet during high accumulation periods. The second principal component represents accumulation over southeastern Greenland where strong westerly flow leads to high accumulation and an increase in lee cyclones …

Estimating The Economic Recreational Value Of Paracas National Reserve In Ica Peru: A Fair Fee Implementation Approach, Jaqueline Garcia-Yi Dec 2004

Estimating The Economic Recreational Value Of Paracas National Reserve In Ica Peru: A Fair Fee Implementation Approach, Jaqueline Garcia-Yi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Paracas National Reserve (PNR) is one of the fifty-seven protected areas that belong to the National System of Protected Areas (SINANPE) of Peru. Located in Ica Department, on the Pacific coast of Peru, it is the only coastal-marine ecosystem currently protected by the Peruvian government. PNR has been internationally recognized, principally as a wintering area for bird migrations. It has been designated as a Regional Shorebird Reserve by the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network (1991), a Ramsar site by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat (1992), and a Particular Sensitive Sea Area by the …

On The Uscrn Temperature System, Kenneth Hubbard, X. Lin, C.B. Baker Sep 2004

On The Uscrn Temperature System, Kenneth Hubbard, X. Lin, C.B. Baker

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

In 2004 a new aspirated surface air temperature system was officially deployed nationally in the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN) commissioned by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin- istration. The primary goal of the USCRN is to provide future long-term and high-quality homogeneous observations of surface air temperature and precipitation that can be coupled to past long-term observations for the detection and attribution of present and future climate change. In this paper two precision air temperature systems are included for evaluating the new USCRN air temperature system based on a 1-yr side-by-side field comparison. The measurement errors of the USCRN …

Future Mangement Arrangements For Western Australia's Temperate Shark Fisheries., Jane Borg, R. Mcauley Jul 2004

Future Mangement Arrangements For Western Australia's Temperate Shark Fisheries., Jane Borg, R. Mcauley

Fisheries management papers

This paper provides a summary of the attributes of these temperate shark fisheries, and sets out the proposed objectives and the measures available to achieve them. In summary, primary measures are aimed at the sustainability of dusky and whiskery sharks, with dusky sharks being of greater concern as their status is more critical. The final decision on management of these fisheries cannot compromise sustainability, not only because of the Department’s obligations under the Fish Resources Management Act, 1994, but also: • national and international obligations associated with ecologically sustainable development; • export accreditation under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation …

Proposals For Community Discussion : A Quality Future For Recreational Fishing In The Pilbara/Kimberley : A Five-Year Draft Strategy For Managing The Recreational Component Of The Catch, Pilbara/Kimberley Recreational Fishing Working Group. Jul 2004

Proposals For Community Discussion : A Quality Future For Recreational Fishing In The Pilbara/Kimberley : A Five-Year Draft Strategy For Managing The Recreational Component Of The Catch, Pilbara/Kimberley Recreational Fishing Working Group.

Fisheries management papers

With a growing population and advances in technology, fishing pressure will continue to grow and anglers will become more efficient at targeting fish - particularly offshore demersal species, such as tropical snappers and emperors. There is also a clear need for recreational fisheries management to complement the existing management arrangements for the charter industry, and provide the necessary framework for recreational fishing to be incorporated into an integrated management framework with other fishing sectors.

The Colorado Law Natural Resources Law Center celebrated its 25th Annual Summer Conference by exploring one of the most important natural resources of the 21st century: groundwater. Titled "Groundwater in the West," the conference was held June 16-18 at the Fleming Law Building on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. Participants discussed law, policy, and management of groundwater in the West. "As demands on surface water increase and drought seems more the norm than …
