The effect of commercial fishing on bycatch species and the marine ecosystem generally, has emerged as a significant national and international issue. The Minister for Fisheries has determined that the allocation for sectors in the western rock lobster fishery after reserving one tonne for the customary sector shall be 95 per cent commercial and five per cent recreational.
