Decoding The Underlying Meaning Of Multimodal Hateful Memes, Ming Shan Hee, Wen Haw Chong, Roy Ka-Wei Lee Aug 2023

Decoding The Underlying Meaning Of Multimodal Hateful Memes, Ming Shan Hee, Wen Haw Chong, Roy Ka-Wei Lee

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Recent studies have proposed models that yielded promising performance for the hateful meme classification task. Nevertheless, these proposed models do not generate interpretable explanations that uncover the underlying meaning and support the classification output. A major reason for the lack of explainable hateful meme methods is the absence of a hateful meme dataset that contains ground truth explanations for benchmarking or training. Intuitively, having such explanations can educate and assist content moderators in interpreting and removing flagged hateful memes. This paper address this research gap by introducing Hateful meme with Reasons Dataset (HatReD), which is a new multimodal hateful meme …

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research paper is to explore ChatGPT’s potential as an innovative designer tool for the future development of artificial intelligence. Specifically, this conceptual investigation aims to analyze ChatGPT’s capabilities as a tool for designing and developing near about human intelligent systems for futuristic used and developed in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Also with the helps of this paper, researchers are analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of ChatGPT as a tool, and identify possible areas for improvement in its development and implementation. This investigation focused on the various features and functions of ChatGPT that …

Wikipedia Web Table Interpretation, Keyword-Based Search, And Ranking, Kartikee Dabir Jan 2023

Wikipedia Web Table Interpretation, Keyword-Based Search, And Ranking, Kartikee Dabir

Master's Projects

Information retrieval and data interpretation on the web, for the purpose of gaining knowledgeable insights, has been a widely researched topic from the onset of the world wide web or what is today popularly known as the internet. Web tables are structured tabular data present amidst unstructured, heterogenous data on the web. This makes web tables a rich source of information for a variety of tasks like data analysis, data interpretation, and information retrieval pertaining to extracting knowledge from information present on the web. Wikipedia tables which are a subset of web tables hold a huge amount of useful data, …

Using A Bert-Based Ensemble Network For Abusive Language Detection, Noah Ballinger May 2022

Using A Bert-Based Ensemble Network For Abusive Language Detection, Noah Ballinger

Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

Over the past two decades, online discussion has skyrocketed in scope and scale. However, so has the amount of toxicity and offensive posts on social media and other discussion sites. Despite this rise in prevalence, the ability to automatically moderate online discussion platforms has seen minimal development. Recently, though, as the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) continue to improve, the potential of AI-based detection of harmful internet content has become a real possibility. In the past couple years, there has been a surge in performance on tasks in the field of natural language processing, mainly due to the development of …

Caption And Image Based Next-Word Auto-Completion, Meet Patel

Master's Projects

With the increasing number of options or choices in terms of entities like products, movies, songs, etc. which are now available to users, they try to save time by looking for an application or system that provides automatic recommendations. Recommender systems are automated computing processes that leverage concepts of Machine Learning, Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence towards generating product recommendations based on a user’s preferences. These systems have given a significant boost to businesses across multiple segments as a result of reduced human intervention. One similar aspect of this is content writing. It would save users a lot of time …

Improved Chinese Language Processing For An Open Source Search Engine, Xianghong Sun May 2020

Improved Chinese Language Processing For An Open Source Search Engine, Xianghong Sun

Master's Projects

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is the process of computers analyzing on human languages. There are also many areas in NLP. Some of the areas include speech recognition, natural language understanding, and natural language generation.

Information retrieval and natural language processing for Asians languages has its own unique set of challenges not present for Indo-European languages. Some of these are text segmentation, named entity recognition in unsegmented text, and part of speech tagging. In this report, we describe our implementation of and experiments with improving the Chinese language processing sub-component of an open source search engine, Yioop. In particular, we rewrote …

Word Embedding Driven Concept Detection In Philosophical Corpora, Dylan Hayton-Ruffner Jan 2020

Word Embedding Driven Concept Detection In Philosophical Corpora, Dylan Hayton-Ruffner

Honors Projects

During the course of research, scholars often explore large textual databases for segments of text relevant to their conceptual analyses. This study proposes, develops and evaluates two algorithms for automated concept detection in theoretical corpora: ACS and WMD retrieval. Both novel algorithms are compared to key word retrieval, using a test set from the Digital Ricoeur corpus tagged by scholarly experts. WMD retrieval outperforms key word search on the concept detection task. Thus, WMD retrieval is a promising tool for concept detection and information retrieval systems focused on theoretical corpora.

Adapting Bert For Target-Oriented Multimodal Sentiment Classification, Jianfei Yu, Jing Jiang Aug 2019

Adapting Bert For Target-Oriented Multimodal Sentiment Classification, Jianfei Yu, Jing Jiang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

As an important task in Sentiment Analysis, Target-oriented Sentiment Classification (TSC) aims to identify sentiment polarities over each opinion target in a sentence. However, existing approaches to this task primarily rely on the textual content, but ignoring the other increasingly popular multimodal data sources (e.g., images), which can enhance the robustness of these text-based models. Motivated by this observation and inspired by the recently proposed BERT architecture, we study Target-oriented Multimodal Sentiment Classification (TMSC) and propose a multimodal BERT architecture. To model intra-modality dynamics, we first apply BERT to obtain target-sensitive textual representations. We then borrow the idea from self-attention …

Question Type Recognition Using Natural Language Input, Aishwarya Soni Jun 2017

Question Type Recognition Using Natural Language Input, Aishwarya Soni

Master's Projects

Recently, numerous specialists are concentrating on the utilization of Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems in various domains, for example, data extraction and content mining. One of the difficulties with these innovations is building up a precise Question and Answering (QA) System. Question type recognition is the most significant task in a QA system, for example, chat bots. Organization such as National Institute of Standards (NIST) hosts a conference series called as Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) series which keeps a competition every year to encourage and improve the technique of information retrieval from a large corpus of text. When a user …

Spoons: Netflix Outage Detection Using Microtext Classification, Eriq A. Augusitne Mar 2013

Spoons: Netflix Outage Detection Using Microtext Classification, Eriq A. Augusitne

Master's Theses

Every week there are over a billion new posts to Twitter services and many of those messages contain feedback to companies about their services. One company that recognizes this unused source of information is Netflix. That is why Netflix initiated the development of a system that lets them respond to the millions of Twitter and Netflix users that are acting as sensors and reporting all types of user visible outages. This system enhances the feedback loop between Netflix and its customers by increasing the amount of customer feedback that Netflix receives and reducing the time it takes for Netflix to …
