Effecting Of Dissolved Oxygen On Microbial Fuel Cells Based On Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Chang-Li Cao, Li-Xiang Chen, Ran-Ran Wu, Ken-Lin Chang, Feng Zhao

Journal of Electrochemistry

In this work, the reaction between the electron shuttle secreted by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and anode was studied by measuring cyclic voltammogram and open circuit potential. The effect of dissolved oxygen on the oxidation reaction of anode was explored. It was demonstrated that the reaction was a diffusion-controlled and reversible process. The anode was a little affected when the dissolved oxygen of inocula was low (0 ~ 1.6 mg·L-1). The polarization curves showed that the current output of microbial fuel cells decreased 7% with the impact of dissolved oxygen.

Fabrication And Performance Of Ni-Scsz Cermet Anode Modified By Coating With Gd_(0.2)Ce_(0.8)O_2 For A Sofc, Ren-Zhu Liu, Bo Huang, Xiao-Feng Ye, Shao-Rong Wang, Jia-Di Cao, Huai-Wen Nie, Ting-Lian Wen

Journal of Electrochemistry

A Ni-scandia-stabilized zirconia(Ni-ScSZ) cermet anode modified by coating with nano-sized gadolinium-doped ceria(GDC,Gd0.2Ce0.8O2) was prepared using a simple combustion process for the solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) running on methane fuel.X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) indicated that the surface of Ni-ScSZ was coated by nano-sized GDC particles(<100nm).Single cell testing showed that the 2.0%(by mass) GDC-coated Ni-ScSZ anode had better performance. The highest power densities of the cell with this anode were 825 and 848mW/cm2 at 850℃ in humidified hydrogen and methane, respectively, whereas the corresponding values were 584 and 586mW/cm2 for the cell with Ni-ScSZ anode.Electrochemical impedance spectra(EIS) illustrated that the cell with Ni-ScSZ anode exhibited far greater impedances than the cell with 2.0%(by mass) GDC-coated Ni-ScSZ anode. Then the short-term stability for the cells with the Ni-ScSZ and 2.0%(by mass) GDC-coated Ni-ScSZ anodes in 97%CH4/3%H2O at 700℃ was checked over a relative long period of operation. No significant degradation in performance has been observed after 84 h of cell testing when 2.0%(by mass) GDC-coated Ni-ScSZ anode was exposed to 97%CH4/3%H2O at 700 ℃.Very little carbon was detected on the anodes, suggesting that carbon deposition was limited during cell operation.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The improving effect of solid electrolyte film artificially imposed on carbon electrode was investigated. The result showed that both the charge/discharge capacity and first charge/discharge efficiency, to a certain extent, were enhanced, and the result also suggested the effectiveness of the substitution of the artificially imposed solid electrolyte film for the inherent passivating film which was formed on the surface of the carbon electrode while inserted in the electrolyte during charging or discharging. The Scanning Electron Microscope result displayed the compact and well defined morphology of the artificially imposed crystalline film.

Surface Modifications Of Carbon Materials Used As Anode Of Lithium Ion Batteryⅱ.The Carbon Material With Core Shell Structure And Its Positive Effect On Cell Performance Of Graphite Anode, Shuhua Ma, Hanju Guo, Ji Li, Hongze Liang, Xiabin Jing, Fosong Wang

Journal of Electrochemistry

The carbon powders and film electrode with core shell structure were prepared by carbonization in gas state with using refined coal as shell material and Artificial Graphite and Mesocarbon Microbeads (2 800 ℃) graphite as core material. Galvanostatic charge/discharge measurement showed that both steady charge/discharge capacity and first charge/discharge efficiency were improved. Cyclic voltammetry indicated that the peak at about 0.7 V vs. Li +/Li characteristic of decomposition of electrolyte got weakened, and a more compact film was formed. X ray diffraction measurement suggested the existence of amorphous carbon shell on the carbon powders and carbon film.
