Cyclization Of Peptide Structures By Creating Metal Foldamers Using 99m-Tc/Re(Co)3, Dhvani D. Oza Nov 2020

Cyclization Of Peptide Structures By Creating Metal Foldamers Using 99m-Tc/Re(Co)3, Dhvani D. Oza

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Constrained peptides have been successful as therapeutics owing to the rigidity in their framework, allowing them to have enhanced pharmacological properties. Apart from covalent bond based cyclization, constraints can be induced by cyclization using metal coordination. The metals Re and 99mTc are one of the few metals which have not been studied in great detail for their ability to cyclize linear peptides. A tri-alanine sequence was employed in the peptide backbone due to its ability to form stable helices. In addition, another tripeptide sequence RGD, which is recognized by the integrin avb3, was also used. …

Production Of Medical Radioisotopes Using Titanium Accelerator Targets, Christopher Shaun Loveless Aug 2020

Production Of Medical Radioisotopes Using Titanium Accelerator Targets, Christopher Shaun Loveless

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Theranostic radiopharmaceuticals enable diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy in patients using a single molecular agent labeled with a diagnostic-therapeutic pair (e.g., 68Ga/177Lu) or a theranostic radionuclide (e.g., 131I). This theranostic approach can help inform patient-specific treatment plans and improve clinical outcomes. Radionuclide pairs used in theranostic agents fall into two categories: pseudo matched-pairs (e.g., 68Ga/177Lu) and matched-pairs (e.g., 124I/131I). Pseudo matched-pair radionuclides have similar chemistries and pharmacokinetics when bound to the same bioconjugate molecule. In contrast, identical chemistries and pharmacokinetics can be obtained by using the matched-pair radionuclides.

The isotopes of Sc include two diagnostic radioisotopes, 43Sc & 44Sc, and …

Dipicolinamide Ligands And Analogs For Lanthanides (Ln), Actinides (An) And Mercury (Hg) For Application To Nuclear Fuel Cycle Separations And Waste Management, Ingrid Lehman-Andino Jun 2020

Dipicolinamide Ligands And Analogs For Lanthanides (Ln), Actinides (An) And Mercury (Hg) For Application To Nuclear Fuel Cycle Separations And Waste Management, Ingrid Lehman-Andino

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Spent nuclear fuel (SNF) – or used nuclear fuel (UNF) – contains long-lived minor actinides such as 241Am, 245Cm, and 237Np, together with fission products that include lanthanides. Minor actinides are responsible for much of the radiotoxicity and heat generation that limits the capacity of geological repositories. Thus, removing minor actinides from UNF can reduce storage time required for decay to natural levels of activity by several orders of magnitude. Actinide(An)/Lanthanide(Ln) separation processes via solvent extraction by selective complexation with organic or aqueous ligands have to overcome difficulties due to similarities in their ionic radii for the …

Seasonal Transport Of Dissolved Inorganic Carbon And Total Alkalinity Across The Louisiana Shelf, Michelle M. Anderson Jun 2020

Seasonal Transport Of Dissolved Inorganic Carbon And Total Alkalinity Across The Louisiana Shelf, Michelle M. Anderson

LSU Master's Theses

Rivers and wetlands are a major source of terrestrial derived carbon for coastal ocean margins. Unfortunately, Louisiana’s wetlands are threatened by ongoing high rates of erosion, deterioration, and unprecedented rates of river water discharge that changes seasonally, leading to a net loss of terrestrial carbon into the northern Gulf of Mexico (nGOM). There exists a current lack of understanding about the distribution of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and total alkalinity (TAlk) within the shallowest regions of the Louisiana shelf. Even less is known about how the transport of DIC alters seasonally with changes in river outflow and shelf currents. Quantifying …

The Reduction, Sequestration, And/Or Coordination Of Technetium-99 Utilizing Polyoxometalates And Nanomaterials, Colleen Mb Gallagher Jun 2020

The Reduction, Sequestration, And/Or Coordination Of Technetium-99 Utilizing Polyoxometalates And Nanomaterials, Colleen Mb Gallagher

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Research into the sequestration of radionuclides from aqueous media is being conducted due to the contamination of aqueous waste effluents and groundwater with highly toxic long-lived radionuclides. These contaminants are introduced into water and streams from legacy nuclear sites, nuclear reactor operations, nuclear fuel reprocessing, nuclear weapons testing, and plutonium production. A major contributor (~6%) to the waste from thermal neutron fission of uranium-235 is the radionuclide technetium-99 (99Tc). It is considered a long-lived radioisotope with a half-life of 2.1x105 years. It is a weak beta emitter with a max energy of 0.29 MeV and is most …
