Advances In Cellulose Nanomaterial-Based Foams For Environmental Applications, Md Musfiqur Rahman Dec 2023

Advances In Cellulose Nanomaterial-Based Foams For Environmental Applications, Md Musfiqur Rahman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The use of metal-oxide nanoparticles adsorbents is limited to fixed-bed columns in industrial-scale water treatment applications. This limitation is commonly attributed to the tendency of nanoparticles to aggregate, the use of non-sustainable and inefficient polymeric resins as supporting materials, or a lack of adsorption capacity. Foams and aerogels derived from cellulose nanomaterials have unique characteristics, such as high porosity and low density, which enables their use in a variety of environmental applications, including water treatment. However, the overall use of cellulose nanomaterial-based foams in various environmental sectors is limited due to the high cost of production associated with time- and …

Journal of Electrochemistry

Since the development of acid copper plating technology, the role of additives is indispensable. In addition to the main salt copper sulfate and supporting electrolyte sulfuric acid, suppressors, accelerators, levelers and chlorine ions (Cl-) are also required to be added into the plating solution. Appropriate additive system can have a significant impact on the coating or the plating solution, which can help improve the quality of the coating and increase the brightness of the coating. Through electrochemical measurement, vibrational spectroscopy, scanning probe microscopy, molecular dynamics simulation and other methods, researches have a deeper understanding in the adsorption configuration …

Uio-Type Metal-Organic Framework Derivatives As Sorbents For The Detection Of Gas-Phase Explosives, Matthew Ryan Sherrill Jan 2022

Uio-Type Metal-Organic Framework Derivatives As Sorbents For The Detection Of Gas-Phase Explosives, Matthew Ryan Sherrill

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

The detection of energetic compounds – better known to the public as explosives – has is an important cornerstone of counterterrorism and homeland security . While significant advances have been achieved for the detection of trace explosives in various matrices such as soil, wastewater, and clothing, the detection of explosives in the gas phase remains challenging due to their infamously low vapor pressures. In this thesis, we leverage the high sensitivity of direct analysis in real-time mass spectrometry (DART-MS) and the microporosity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to adsorb and therefore concentrate explosives from the vapor phase and subsequently detect them …

Effects Of So2 In Air On Performance Of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell, Bin Qin, Fen-Ning Jing, Xue-Jing Sun, Gong-Quan Sun, Hai Sun Dec 2018

Effects Of So2 In Air On Performance Of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell, Bin Qin, Fen-Ning Jing, Xue-Jing Sun, Gong-Quan Sun, Hai Sun

Journal of Electrochemistry

Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) generally use oxygen as an oxidant. Contaminants such as sulfides and nitrides in the air can affect the performance of the DMFC. In this work, the effects of SO2 on the performance of DMFC were investigated and the mechanism of poisoning was analyzed, by means of constant current discharge curve, polarization performance curve, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). In the CV scan, the permeated methanol was oxidized at a low potential to eliminate its effect on the SO2 poisoning behavior test. The results showed that the SO2 poisoning resulted …

Rambling Between "Zhong Yong" And "Catalysis", Zi-Dong Wei Apr 2016

Rambling Between "Zhong Yong" And "Catalysis", Zi-Dong Wei

Journal of Electrochemistry

“Zhong Yong” represents a traditional Chinese wisdom, which was first proposed by Confucius and continuously richened by his followers. “Zhong Yong” pursues the balances among all kinds of contradictions, and insists that neither “too much” nor “not enough” is good. For a successful catalyst, on which the adsorption of reactants must be not so strong and not so weak either. On this point of view, there are the same pursuits for “Zhong Yong” and catalysis. In this paper, the author starts his story with a conversation between Confucius and his student, followed by 3 interesting stories happening in the ancient …

Degradation And Exciton Energy Transfer Studies In Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Bundles, Abhishek Gottipati

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) due to their unique optical behavior, large surface area, robust mechanical strength and electrical properties make them one of the ideal candidates for sensing and opto-electronic applications. In this work, we explore the energy transfer (exciton energy transfer-EET) phenomena occurring between nanotubes in bundles, using resonance Raman spectroscopy.

Probing Bonding And Dynamics At Heterogeneous Adsorbate/Graphene Interfaces, Eric Charles Mattson May 2013

Probing Bonding And Dynamics At Heterogeneous Adsorbate/Graphene Interfaces, Eric Charles Mattson

Theses and Dissertations

Graphene-based materials are becoming an astoundingly promising choice for many relevant technological and environmental applications. Deriving graphene from the reduction of graphene oxide (GO) is becoming a popular and inexpensive route toward the synthesis of these materials. While the desired product from GO reduction is pristine graphene, defects and residual oxygen functional groups inherited from the parent GO render reduced graphene oxide (RGO) distinct from graphene. In this work, the structure and bonding for GO and RGO is investigated to the end of a working understanding of the composition and properties of these materials. In situ selected area electron diffraction …

Influence Of Electric Field On The Adsorption And Bioactivity Of Hemoglobin On A Macroporous Gold Electrode, Cui-Hong Wang, Yi-Bing Kong, Xing-Hua Xia

Journal of Electrochemistry

The adsorption and bioactivity of proteins at interfaces have been widely studied due to their important role in the construction of biosensors, bioelectronics and biofuel cells.Interfacial electric field is one of the important factors which could affect the adsorption and bioactivity of proteins at materials surfaces. It could dramatically change the adsorption density, molecular conformation and orientation at material surfaces. In this paper, the influence of interfacial electric field on the adsorption kinetics and bioactivity of hemoglobin(Hb) on a three-dimensional(3D) macroporous gold electrode surface has been studied using electrochemical methods and infrared spectroscopy. It was found that the interfacial electric field created excess surface charge which …

Electrochemical Behavior Of Riboflavin On Glassy Carbon Electrode, Hong Li, Lincai Jiang May 1999

Electrochemical Behavior Of Riboflavin On Glassy Carbon Electrode, Hong Li, Lincai Jiang

Journal of Electrochemistry

The electrochemical behavior of riboflavin(RF) on glassy carbon has been investigated by using potential sweep, rotating ring_disc electrode and the measurement of differential capacitance. It is shown that a single well_behaved oxidation_reduction wave corresponding to a reversible two_electrons reaction apears in medium of pH<6,and the adsorption of RFH2 formed by electro_reduction is weak and hence its solubility is good.In medium of pH>6,there are two separating but overlapping partly oxidation_reduction waves corresponding to two_step one_electron reaction. The adsorptions of RFH and RFH2 produced by reduction reactions in medium of 610,the solubilities of the adsorbed species produced by electro_reduction are good.
