An Investigation On The Structure Of Au(111)/Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquid Interface: Effect Of Alkyl Side Chain Length, Li Chen, Shuai Liu, Mian-Gang Li, Jian-Jia Su, Jia-Wei Yan, Bing-Wei Mao

In this work, we comparatively investigated the interfacial structures at Au(111) electrode surfaces in two ionic liquids (ILs) with different alkyl chain lengths by combining AFM force curve technique and electrochemical methods. The number and stability of the layering structures, and their potential-dependency were analyzed. The experimental results indicated that the tendencies of force-potential curves in the two ILs behave the same way. At potentials close to PZC, the ions arrange loosely, which lowers the stability of the layering structure. As the potential shifting away from PZC, more ions attach to electrode surface, which increases the stability of layering structure, …

Investigation On Laser Induced Deposition Of Cu-Based Materials At [Bmim]Bf4/Pt Electrode Interface, Min-Min Xu, Jin-Hua Mei, Jian-Lin Yao, Ren-Ao Gu

By controlling the negative potential, Cu-based materials were deposited at the [BMIm]BF4/Pt electrode interface under the laser irradiation. The effects of laser power and irradiation time on the yield of deposition products were studied by using different laser powers and different irradiation time. The product yield could be directly determined by the size of deposition point through the observation from the optical microscope. Further mechanism study combined with the formula deduced that the thermal effect of the laser could make the electrode surface temperature rise 110 degrees, which can promote the occurrence of electrodeposition. Prior to this thesis, phosphorus-containing polymers and photopolymerization represented two distinct, non-overlapping fields of study. This thesis examined the prospect of combining these two approaches to create a system possessing the benefits of both techniques. By exploiting the chemistry of phosphorus, and using photopolymerization as a fabrication method, new materials were developed and assessed for their use in various applications.

Among the many phosphorus compounds that may be used in polymer science, phosphonium salts and primary phosphines were of specific focus. Electrodeposition of aluminium-magnesium alloys have been carried out onto platinum and copper cathodes from Lewis acidic aluminium(III) chloride-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid containing magnesium(II) chloride by constant current and constant potential methods at room temperature. Magnesium content in the deposited alloy increases with increasing MgCl2 concentration in the ionic liquid and with increasing cathodic current density. The influences of various experimental conditions on electrodeposition and the morphology of the electrodeposited layers have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX). The interactions between four Imidazole ionic liquids (EMIMBF4, BMIMBF4, BMIMHSO4, BMIMAc) and p-methoxy toluene were investigated by ultraviolet spectroscopy. The red shifts of absorption peak were obviously observed, and the fine structures of the spectroscopy were disappeared on the long wave district. p-MT producing stable excited state was benefit from the interaction with solvent molecules. The electro-oxidation behavious of p-MT were studied in the four ILs on platinum electrode by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CP), and the diffusion coefficients (D) and activation energies (ED) were calculated. By utilizing in-situ AFM force curve measurements systematic investigations have been carried out on Au(111)-ionic liquid interface in BMIPF6 and OMIPF6 of imidazolium-based ionic liquids with different lengths of alkyl side chains. The temperature dependence of the number, thickness and stability of the layered structures of each system are studied by performing AFM force curve measurements at potentials far negative of the PZC. Room temperature ionic liquids are an important class of materials due to their chemical tunability and numerous advantageous physicochemical properties. As a result, ionic liquids are currently being investigated for use in a wide array of chemical and electrochemical applications. Despite their great potential, however, the relationship between the chemical structure and physicochemical properties of ionic liquids is not well understood.

To this end, this dissertation presents experimental studies of the reorientational structural dynamics and charge transport properties of a variety of room temperature ionic liquids using quasielastic light scattering spectroscopy and broadband dielectric spectroscopy.

Imidazolium Ionic liquids (ILs) nano aggregates confined into nanopores of silica gel matrices (ILs-sg) modified electrodes were prepared by sol-gel process and characterized by cyclic voltammetry. Furthermore, the amounts of 15% ~ 28% ILs-sg and nano aggregates coated with ILs silica gel (ILs/sg) were prepared and their conductivities were evaluated by performing electrochemical AC impedance measurements from 20 oC to 80 oC. The underpotential deposition (UPD) of germanium (Ge) in BMIPF6 ionic liquids on Au(111) and Pt(111) surfaces have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and in-situ scannin tunneling microscopy (STM). The CV results show that there are two reduction peaks related to the electrodeposition of Ge. The first reduction peak appeared in the CV curve may cover the transformation of Ge4+ to Ge2+ and the UPD of Ge. The second reduction peak corresponds to the bulk deposition of Ge. In-situ STM study suggests that the two UPD layers of Ge are formed on Au(111) and Pt(111) surfaces. The …

Using ionic liquid [EMI]BF4 as the electrolyte,the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose on carbon nanotubes/nanocrystlline TiO2 film loaded on Pt (CNT/nanoTiO2-Pt) complex film electrode was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The results found that the CNT/nanoTiO2-Pt complex electrode had high catalytic activity to the electrochemical oxidation of glucose in ionic liquids and the oxidation potential was -0.46 V. The best effect of glucose oxidation was obtained with the volume ratio of ionic liquid to water being 3∶1. The process of electrodic reaction process was concentration polarization controlled.

Electrochemical reduction of nitrobenzene at glassy carbon electrode in different ionic liquids,such as N-methylimidazolium-p-toluene sulfonic acid ([Mim][PhSO3]) and ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([Bmim][PF6]) have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Experimental results showed that only a cathodic current peak was observed in [Mim][PhSO3],which is a diffusional controlled irreversible reaction. And two pairs of current peaks were obtained in [Bmim][PF6] in the same potential range,indicating showed that the reduction products of nitrobenzene were different in different ionic liquids.

Electrochemical Reduction Behavior Of Benzaldehyde In The Ionic Liquids, Ning Zhao, Wen-Ju Dong

In this paper,the electrochemical reduction of benzaldehyde was investigated in C_4MIMBF_(4)、(C_(6)MIMBF_(4)) and C_(8)MIMBF_(4) ionic liquids by cyclic linear sweep voltammetry,cyclic square-wave voltammetry and chronocoulometry.Benzaldehyde exhibits two successive one-electron irreversible reduction(E_(P1)=-1.39 V,E_(P2)=1.69 V) with GC electrode in C_(4)MIMBF_(4),the voltammetric data for benzaldehyde give diffusion coefficients of 1.5 10~(-8)cm~(2)/s and 1.3 10~(8)cm~2/s.There is one current peak in C_(6)MIMBF_(4)and C_8MIMBF_4 ionic liquids due to their stronger alkalinity then C_4MIMBF_4.The decay time of the charging current became longer in C_(4)MIMBF_(4)、C_(6)MIMBF_(4)、C_(8)MIMBF_(4),and slower heterogeneous kinetics in(C_(6)MIMBF_(4)) and C_(8)MIMBF_(4) ionic liquids.
