A Pedagogic Analysis Of Linear Algebra Courses, Andrew Taylor

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

This project is concerned with investigating the question, "Do our applied linear algebra courses (at the University of New Mexico) adequately prepare STEM students for future work in their respective fields?" In order to explore this, surveys were issued to three groups (sections) of students (among two different instructors) at the conclusion of their applied linear algebra course, as well as STEM professors/instructors from a variety of STEM fields. Students were surveyed regarding their perceived mastery of given topics/ideas from the course and professors/instructors were surveyed about the level of mastery they felt was necessary (referred to as ``desired mastery") …

Applied Mathematical Programming, Man-Keun Kim, Bruce A. Mccarl, Thomas H. Spreen

Textbooks

This book is intended to both serve as a reference guide and a text for a course on Applied Mathematical Programming for upper undergraduate and Master level students in Economics, Applied Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Management; primarily based on McCarl and Spreen (2013). The material presented in McCarl and Spreen (2013) concentrates upon conceptual issues, problem formulation, computerized problem solution, and results interpretation; it is designed for the advanced readers who are familiar with mathematical economics including linear and matrix algebra and also with advanced modeling skills. Upper level undergraduate and/or Master students may not be beneficial from …

A Model Of Activity And Intervention Across Social Networks, Allison Marie Heming May 2015

A Model Of Activity And Intervention Across Social Networks, Allison Marie Heming

Masters Theses

Social network analysis is a growing field used to measure connectivity and activity of people and communities. We develop a model that creates a network and measures the overall activity of that network. We then apply interventions to this model and measure the change in overall activity. Through an optimization process we are able to determine the best course of action that minimizes or maximizes the overall activity of the network.
