Positronium Formation From Li And Na Atoms By Use Of Pseudopotential, Sultana N. Nahar, J M. Wadehra
Positronium Formation From Li And Na Atoms By Use Of Pseudopotential, Sultana N. Nahar, J M. Wadehra
Physics and Astronomy Faculty Research Publications
The differential and total cross sections for the formation of positronium in its ground state from Li and Na atoms by the impact of intermediate-energy positrons are calculated in the first Born and distorted-wave Born approximations. Hellmann-type pseudopotentials are used to represent the alkali-metal ion cores. The difference in the use of pseudopotentials and the static potential for the core representation for evaluating various rearrangement cross sections is discussed.

The thermal and chemical stabilities of amorphous-metal diffusion barrier films are of importance in high-temperature semiconductor device applications. The reaction characteristics of the barrier constituents with the surrounding elements as well as the crystallization temperature determine the thermal stability of an amorphous-alloy diffusion barrier. We report that suitable thin films of Ta-Cu have been prepared over a wide range of compositions, by cosputter deposition onto GaAs and fused-quartz substrates. The amorphous nature and crystallization behavior of the films have been monitored by x-ray diffraction and van der Pauw resistivity measurements. Films were found to be amorphous over the range of …

Study Of The Effectiveness Of Cost-Estimation Models And Complexity Metrics On Small Projects, Lein-Lein Chen
Study Of The Effectiveness Of Cost-Estimation Models And Complexity Metrics On Small Projects, Lein-Lein Chen
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Software cost overruns and time delay are common occurrences in the software development process. To reduce the occurrences of these problems, software cost estimation models and software complexity metrics measurements are two popular approaches used by the industry.
Most of the related studies are conducted for large scale software projects. In this thesis, we have investigated the effectiveness of three popular cost estimation models and program complexity metrics in so far as their applicability to small scale projects is concerned.
Experiments conducted on the programs collected from FIU and NCR corporation indicate that none of the cost estimation models precisely …

A Criterion For Vortex Breakdown, R. E. Spall, T. B. Gatski, C. E. Grosch
A Criterion For Vortex Breakdown, R. E. Spall, T. B. Gatski, C. E. Grosch
CCPO Publications
A criterion for the onset of vortex breakdown over a wide range of the Reynolds number is proposed. Based upon previous experimental, theoretical, and numerical studies, as well as a new numerical study, an appropriately defined local Rossby number is used to delineate the region where breakdown occurs. Comparisons are made with previously suggested criticality parameters and the unique features of the proposed Rossby number parameter are shown. A number of previous theoretical studies concentrating on inviscid standing‐wave analyses for trailing wing‐tip vortices are reviewed and reinterpreted, along with the previous numerical and experimental studies, in terms of the Rossby …

Ab initio and MNDO calculations have been carried out to evaluate the gas-phase acidities of closed-shell XHn compounds (X= C, N, 0, F, Si, P, S, Cl) and the affinities of silane for the XHn_1- anions. Fourth-order perturbation theory with extended basis sets reproduces the experimental gas-phase acidities to within 2 kcaljmol. Stable pentacoordinated silicon anions are found for X = H, C, N, 0, and F. In contrast, only marginally stable charge-dipole complexes are found for X = Si, S, and Cl.

Geology Of The Baski̇l (Elaziğ) Area And The Petrology Of Baski̇l Magmatics, H.Jerf Asutay
Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration
The study area which covers the region around Baskil on Eastern Taurus Range comprises of Keban metamorphics and Baskil magmatics overlain by a Tertiary sedimentary cover. The Keban metamorphics are represented by regional and contact metamorphic rocks in the study area. Calc schist and marble associations are widespread on regional scale. Between Baskil granite and Keban metamorphics exomorphism and endomorphism zones have been developed. Metasomatic effects are observed in the contact metamorphic rocks which reflect the pyroxene-hornfels facies. The sedimentary sequence begins with Middle Paleocene (Thanetian) aged rocks in the study area. The same sequence, however, has been deposited starting …

Soil Conservation Provisions Of The 1985 Farm Bill, Monroe Rasnake, Lloyd W. Murdock, Craig Infanger
Soil Science News and Views
The 1985 Farm Bill which was signed into law on December 23, 1985, contains 3 provisions relating to land use which will have a large impact on Kentucky farmers. The purpose of these provisions is to reduce cropland acreage on highly erodible lands and on wetlands. A description of them follows.
