Raman Spectroscopy For Authentication Of African Tribal Masks, Huzaifa Islam Shah, Joshua Sebree Dec 2018

Raman Spectroscopy For Authentication Of African Tribal Masks, Huzaifa Islam Shah, Joshua Sebree

Fall 2018 - Chemical Analysis Class Projects

University of Northern Iowa museum’s collection includes some wooden African tribal masks and African wood samples . Authenticity of the masks was doubted, therefore 5 of the masks and 27 different African wood samples were analyzed using Raman spectroscopy to determine the authenticity of the masks. The data obtained suggested that none of the masks were made up of the wood samples from Africa examined in the project.

Properties Of The Secondary Hochschild Homology, Jacob Laubacher Dec 2018

Properties Of The Secondary Hochschild Homology, Jacob Laubacher

Faculty Creative and Scholarly Works

Abstract. In this paper we study properties of the secondary Hochschild homology of the triple (A, B, ε) with coefficients in M. We establish a type of Morita equivalence between two triples and show that H•((A, B, ε);M) is invariant under this equivalence. We also prove the existence of an exact sequence which connects the usual and the secondary Hochschild homologies in low dimension, allowing one to perform easy computations. The functoriality of H•((A, B, ε);M) is also discussed.

Raman Spectroscopy Of Bronze Disease On Wwii Artifacts, Andrea M. Reutzel Dec 2018

Raman Spectroscopy Of Bronze Disease On Wwii Artifacts, Andrea M. Reutzel

Fall 2018 - Chemical Analysis Class Projects

Patina is a film that forms on bronze or similar metals over a long period of time due to an oxidation reaction. If cuprous chloride in copper alloys are present, it reacts with water to create hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid in the presence of metals will cause corrosions of the bronze and over time it will completely eat away at the metal. This reaction, known as Bronze Disease, is different than patina. Patina can act as a coat and preserver for metals. The University of Northern Iowa’s Museum is experiencing Bronze Disease on artifacts in the WWII collection. The Bronze …

Ecpe 121 - Simulink Labs, Cherian Mathews

Pacific Open Texts

Four laboratory exercises with detailed instructions were developed during Summer 2018 and used in ECPE 121 during the Fall 2018 semester to enhance student learning of the software tool, Simulink. In addition, a video introduction to Simulink was also created and can be viewed by clicking here.

Use of the simulation tool Simulink helps students explore a complex subject via computer simulation. Simulation complements the theory and can help students gain a deeper understanding of the concepts. The Simulink tutorial and lab resources were available for students to refer to at any time. Working through the lab exercises helped …

Resource Assessment Report: Temperate Demersal Elasmobranch Resource Of Western Australia, Matias Braccini, Nick Blay, S. A. Hesp, Brett Molony

Fisheries research reports

This document provides a cumulative description and assessment of the Temperate Demersal Elasmobranch Resource (TDER) and all of the fishing activities (i.e. fisheries / fishing sectors) affecting this resource in WA. Future Resource Assessment Reports will assess the State-wide sharks and rays resource.

The report is focused on the temperate indicator species (whiskery, gummy, dusky and sandbar sharks) used to assess the suites of demersal sharks and rays that comprise this resource. These species are primarily captured by demersal gillnets used in the Temperate Demersal Gillnet and Demersal Longline Fisheries (TDGDLF) that operate in the West Coast and South Coast …
