Select borehole data compiled and organized from Utah Division Oil, Gas and Mining (www.oilgas.ogm.utah.gov). The data found here include API well numbers, names of all wells used, well datum as defined by the elevation above sea level measured at the Kelly Bushing on the drilling floor, and the depth to various formation tops encountered during drilling measured in drilling depth.

Cave passages that are found at similar elevations are grouped together and called levels. The current understanding is that passages within a level are speleogenetically linked to a common static baselevel or stratigraphic control. Cave levels have provided an interpretive framework for deciphering cave development, landscape evolution, and climatic changes. Cosmogenic dating has been successfully used to interpret levels in Mammoth Cave and the Cumberland Plateau; however, this technique is expensive and there are limited funding resources available. Geographic information systems may be used as preliminary procedures to identify cave levels and constrain the timing of level development. A GIS …

The paper presents a new method of CHRIS images filtering. The presented algorithm is based on mathematical morphology operations and allows to correct the main CHRIS images noise types, like missing pixels and vertical stripes caused by a malfunctioning of the device. the algorithm is preceded by the brief discussion on the nature of the noise and the basis of mathematical morphology. The resulting images are compared to the results of application of other types of CHRIS-dedicated algorithms (Settle methods).

Multiple proxy analysis of lake sediment records are crucial for understanding changes in environmental and climate conditions over historical and geological time. Most recently, the use of biomarker proxies coupled with sedimentological investigations provides a new approach for gaining insight into the lake processes that capture information about past climate change. This approach is applied here to better understand the paleoclimate record from Lake El’gygytgyn in Western Beringia. Multiple organic geochemical compound concentrations were measure as proxies for both aquatic and terrestrial biological productivity. Measurements of n-alkane (plant leaf waxes) as well as concentrations of the compounds arborinol (marker for …
