Epidemiology And Pathophysiology Of Common Skin Diseases In West Africa: An Immunodermatological Framework, Osazomon Imarenezor
Epidemiology And Pathophysiology Of Common Skin Diseases In West Africa: An Immunodermatological Framework, Osazomon Imarenezor
All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
This capstone reviews the common skin diseases on a global scale. With these dermatoses being further funneled into Africa and then magnified into common West African dermatoses, the meta-analyses of literature available paints a clear picture of the epidemiological & pathological factors and their contribution to the skin disease. Each article analysed in this analysis was taken from a 20-year span of January 2000 to December 2019. The selection of articles was fine-tuned by identifying the distribution of skin disease, revealing the populations affected (age, gender, ethnicity, etc), the main causes, country of origin, the prognosis of disease, and the …
Trends Of Endometrial Cancer Among Adult Women In The United States, Fnu Kanishka
Trends Of Endometrial Cancer Among Adult Women In The United States, Fnu Kanishka
Capstone Experience
Background: Endometrial cancer also referred to as uterine corpus cancer is the fourth most common cancer diagnosed among US women. It is also one of the few cancers in the US that has an increasing incidence and mortality rate. This study examined the overall and race specific age-adjusted incidence rate as well as incidence-based mortality rate of endometrial cancer in the United States from 1975-2016.
Methods: Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) 1975-2016 data were used. Overall and race specific age-adjusted incidence rate, incidence-based mortality rates and 95% confidence intervals were calculated Trend graphs were created, annual average percent change …
Access To Care And Melanoma Incidence And Mortality In Nebraska, Natalia Trinidad
Access To Care And Melanoma Incidence And Mortality In Nebraska, Natalia Trinidad
Capstone Experience
The purpose of this study is to determine incidence and mortality of melanoma across all counties in Nebraska in the context of access to primary care providers and dermatologists. Crude and age-adjusted incidence rates of melanoma from 2001-2016 by county were calculated for the following year intervals: 2001-2005, 2006-2010, 2011-2016. Variables for melanoma cases were obtained from the Nebraska Cancer Registry and included the case’s zip code at diagnosis, race, ethnicity, sex, age at diagnosis, year, cancer site, vital status, stage of disease, and the ICD-O code for the cancer type. Crude and age-adjusted mortality rates were calculated for the …

Incidence, Persistence, And Recurrence Of Anogenital Α- Mucosal Hpv Infections (Hpv 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 And 58), Shitaldas J. Pamnani
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Objectives: The aims of this study were to: 1) Assess whether naturally induced anti-HPV antibodies are associated with subsequent acquisition of genital HPV 6, 11, 16, and 18 infections in men, 2) assess the recurrence (redetection) of genital HPV infections of the 9-valent vaccine HPV types and investigate factors associated with recurrent infections among men, and 3) assess the risk of type-specific sequential acquisition of anal HPV infection following a genital HPV infection of the 9-valent vaccine HPV types among men who have sex with women (MSW).
Methods: 4,123 healthy men were followed every six months (median follow-up time 4.1 …
Incidence And Factors Associated With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Among Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ani K. John
Incidence And Factors Associated With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Among Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ani K. John
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become one of the most common hepatic diseases worldwide, making the diagnosis and management of NAFLD an emerging public health issue. Theories associated with NAFLD surmise that inflammation may be the root cause, along with the complex interplay of other chronic conditions such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). It is unknown if other inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), along with the use of methotrexate (MTX), might confer increased risk for NAFLD. Longitudinal data collected from a retrospective cohort of 17,481 adult RA patients in the United States …
The Impact Of Social Determinants On Tuberculosis Incidence Trends In New Jersey, Thomas Larry Brown
The Impact Of Social Determinants On Tuberculosis Incidence Trends In New Jersey, Thomas Larry Brown
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Social determinants have impacted disease states. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of social determinants on the incidence of tuberculosis over a 20-year period for the state of New Jersey to determine interventions that can be developed for the state. The epidemiological triad (host-agent-environment) served as the theoretical foundation for this study. A quantitative series of cross sectional analyses were performed using secondary data from a New Jersey Department of Health database on population tuberculosis incidence for the state. Categorical data analyses were used to describe the data. According to study results, certain social determinants; such …
The Burden Of Hepatitis C Virus In New York State, Rachel Hart Malloy
The Burden Of Hepatitis C Virus In New York State, Rachel Hart Malloy
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is estimated to be the most common chronic blood-borne infection in the United States (US). Annual incidence of HCV in the US peaked in the late 1980's, declined steadily through the 1990's and has plateaued since 2003 with approximately 18,000 new cases in 2008. The morbidity and mortality associated with HCV is expected to rise until at least 2015. Due to the high rate of asymptomatic cases, inherent limitations with target screening recommendations, limitations with screening technologies and scarce resources for surveillance nationwide, quantification of the burden is difficult. US estimates of disease burden have …
The Natural History Of Human Papillomavirus Related Condyloma In A Multinational Cohort Of Men, Gabriella Anic
The Natural History Of Human Papillomavirus Related Condyloma In A Multinational Cohort Of Men, Gabriella Anic
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States, but few studies have examined the progression from HPV infection to disease in men. Genital condyloma are the most common clinical manifestation of HPV infection. Though not associated with mortality, condyloma are a source of emotional distress, and treatment is often painful with a high recurrence rate. The aims of this study were to examine the distribution of HPV types present on the surface of condyloma, estimate the incidence of condyloma overall and after type-specific HPV infections, assess the sociodemographic and sexual behavior factors independently associated …
