The assessment of perceived stress and coping behaviors related to first-semester clinical might benefit students in nursing education. The assessment of most common coping behaviors and perceived stress related to the clinical setting is essential due to difference in personalities, learning abilities, and coping behaviors among nursing students today. The purpose of this paper is to present a rapid review of the literature that describes and evaluates post-graduate professional integration programs for recently graduated nurse practitioners.

Background

Recently graduated nurse practitioners face numerous challenges upon entry to practice, these include high patient caseloads, lack of confidence and difficulty integrating into the interprofessional team. In response to these challenges, numerous post-graduate professional integration programs have emerged to support the transition of recently graduated nurse practitioners into practice.

Design

Problem: Results from a voluntarily anonymous pre-survey about sepsis revealed that a majority of the seventeen nurses assessed themselves below an "expert knowledge '' level. The survey results present an opportunity to improve the nurses’ knowledge and confidence in nursing response and improve patient outcomes with sepsis.

Context: The quality improvement (QI) project was conducted on a medical-surgical unit in a large Northern California hospital.

Intervention: A QI team initiated evidenced-based practice research and created an educational sepsis handout for nurses to increase sepsis knowledge and confidence.

Concept-based curriculum (CBC) is a newer trend in nursing education curriculum aimed at preparing new graduates to enter the workforce as generalist nurses better suited to care for a more medically complex population. Using CBC, students are introduced to concepts in order to build conceptual understandings as they engage in knowledge and skill learning, as opposed to a traditional nursing curriculum that is taught in sections grouped by patient population and medical complexity. Objective: The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) launched the next- generation NCLEX (NGN) in April 2023. Pre-licensure nursing faculty are unprepared for the change in teaching and evaluating nursing students' clinical judgment skills. Method: This was a quantitative workshop intervention with a pre-post survey. Intervention: Two-hour online and in-person workshops were held between August and October 2022 on how to create unfolding case studies following NCSBN’s clinical judgment measurement model. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) (2019) reported in 2018-2019, U.S. nursing schools turned away more than 75,000 qualified applicants from baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs due to insufficient numbers of faculty and clinical sites. Two-thirds of the nursing schools related a shortage of nursing faculty and/or clinical preceptors as a reason for not admitting qualified applicants (AACN, 2019).

Academic misconduct is a growing national and global concern. There is a paucity of literature on academic misconduct in nursing. Utilizing the qualitative method of narrative inquiry, this study gives voice to students’ stories of academic misconduct and reveals intimate stories of their experience. The stories contribute to a deeper understanding of associate degree nursing students' experiences with academic misconduct. The findings of the study have implications for future research, nursing education, and practice.

An innovative communication training technique, ‘Rapid Fire’, was created to enhance communication and was incorporated into the debrief component of a simulation designed for correctional nurses to promote learning and engagement. The term ‘Rapid Fire’ was used to expose the critical time element that appears in the first five minutes of many crisis situations, where a quick relay of information and problem solving is essential; such as in a cardiac arrest or other rapidly deteriorating patient situations. The purpose of the present investigation was to identify if changes to writing self-efficacy and writing anxiety will occur in first-year baccalaureate nursing students who are exposed to a discipline-specific scholarly writing course employing scaffolding strategies as the primary instructional method. Educators continue to search for effective methods that will engage students in their learning. This article presents the integration of clickers while using the constructivist approach to foster critical thinking wile engaging learners in a large classroom setting. A 22-item survey was used to measure the perceived value by students to the use of clickers in engaging them in the learning process and fostering critical thinking. Three content-specific standardized assessments testing Fundamentals, Pharmacology and Mental Health concepts were used to explain the dichotomous NCLEX-RN outcome of pass or fail. The three assessments were developed by Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC (ATI).
