Vicarious resilience (VR) is defined as the positive effects caregivers experience within their personal lives, their work lives, and within their worldview as a whole, that come from witnessing the resilience that clients demonstrate in facing their traumatic experiences. This research study is a quasi-experimental pilot study about how solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) influences the vicarious resilience of family protective system (SLIM) workers in Bolivia. The Vicarious Resilience Inventory (VRI) was administered in a pretest/posttest design for an experimental group (applying SFBT) and a control group (training as usual). Utilizing an arts-based feminist autoethnographic stance and method, this dissertation is an evocative exploration of the process and experience of attempting to develop a cohesive identity and build a secure attachment to the self. The author uses countercultural methods—prioritizing and centralizing her experience and uncovering and acting in defiance of oppressive norms—to identify and experience their impact on her identity and intra- and inter- personal relationships. Various tensions are explored, including the suppression of self and desire, self-objectification, fearful-avoidant attachment, and shame; and their influence on engaging in emotional and sexual intimacy is examined. Questioning one’s faith and beliefs about God, church, and their religion can be an excruciating experience. This qualitative research study examines some of the ways in which the healing process takes place in adults who have experienced dissociation, and who have most likely been psychologically traumatized before full language development. The impact of early trauma on human cognitive, socio-emotional, and spiritual development are explored within the context of participant narratives in order to develop an understanding of what may be helpful in developing effective teaching strategies for clinical and teacher education. In-depth interviews were conducted with four adult persons who had been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. All had histories of infant psychological trauma and all …
