Increasing numbers of women are choosing to have children in the context of same-sex relationships or as “out” lesbian or bisexual individuals. This study used qualitative methods to assess perceived predisposing and protective factors for perinatal depression in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBQ) women. Two focus groups with LGBQ women were conducted: 1) biological parents of young children and 2) nonbiological parents of young children or whose partners were currently pregnant. The article looks at the causes of large migratory movements in Haiti. Anthropologist Gérard Barthélemy suggests that emigration from the countryside stems from aspects of rural society, namely the need to accumulate wealth to start one’s own production unit and the need to chase out those who will not stick to and perpetuate the rules of the community. However, according to Jean Métellus and Jean-Claude Icart, migration movements are tightly linked to political and historical upheavals, which force people out of the country in search of safety and survival. Is There A Relationship Between Hopelessness And Religious Problem-Solving Skills?, Eroshini Goonesekera

Students from a small liberal arts college completed the Beck Hopelessness Scale (81-JS) and the short form of the Religious Problem-Solving Scale. The Religious Problem-Solving Scale consists of three subscales: collaborative, self-directive and deferring. A Pearson Correlation was conducted between the BHS score and each subscale of the Religious Problem-Solving Scale. The Bl IS score and the self-directing score were positively correlated. However the correlation of the BHS score and the collaborative and deferring scales were non-significant.

Investigating The Effects Of Communication Problems On Caregiver Burden, Marie Savundranayagam, M. Hummert, R. Montgomery

Objectives. The goal of this study was to explore the relationship between communication problems associated with dementia and caregiver burden, within the context of problem behaviors and cognitive and functional abilities of the care recipient.

Methods. A scale on communication problems associated with dementia was developed and administered to 89 family caregivers. Participants also completed measures of care-recipient cognitive and functional status, problem behavior, and caregiver burden (demand, stress, and objective burden).

Results. Analyses using structural equation modeling showed that care-recipient cognitive and functional status indirectly predicted problem behaviors via communication problems. The status indicators also directly predicted demand burden. …
