Determination Of Maximal Oxygen Uptake Through A New Basketball-Specific Field Test, Ersen Adsiz, Gulbin Rudarli Nalcakan, S. Rana Varol, Faik Vural

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

The aim of this study was to develop a new basketball-specific field test (BSFT) that determines the maximal oxygen uptake indirectly and to determine the reliability and validity of the test for measuring aerobic power. An aerobic endurance-based test totalling 1.5 miles on a basketball court including side steps and running was designed to be completed as quickly as possible. 15-year-old, male basketball players’ maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) levels measured directly as the gold standard laboratory test. Laboratory test results showed a significant negative correlation between the VO2max level and the duration of the BSFT (r = -0.705, p = …

Comparison Of Body Composition, Physical Fitness Parameters And Skeletal Muscle Damage Indices Among Young Indian Male Soccer & Hockey Players, Surojit Sarkar, Subhra Karmakar Chatterjee, Swapan K. Dey Mar 2022

Comparison Of Body Composition, Physical Fitness Parameters And Skeletal Muscle Damage Indices Among Young Indian Male Soccer & Hockey Players, Surojit Sarkar, Subhra Karmakar Chatterjee, Swapan K. Dey

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: ‪The present study was aimed to evaluate the evidential comparison of anthropometric, body composition, and physical fitness parameters and muscle damage indices between soccer and field hockey players. Material and methods: ‪Forty-one young Indian male players (including soccer, N = 18, and hockey, N = 23) were evaluated for anthropometric parameters (height, weight, BMI, BMR), and physical fitness variables (grip strength, back strength, flexibility, VO2max, anaerobic power) using standard procedures. Body composition (fat mass, fat free mass, cell mass, muscle mass, fluid content, glycogen, minerals, body density) was assessed by using multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analyzer (BIA). Muscle damage indices …

Hemodynamic And Metabolic Responses During Self-Paced And Ramp Graded Exercise Testing Treadmill Protocols, Nicholas Mark Beltz May 2017

Hemodynamic And Metabolic Responses During Self-Paced And Ramp Graded Exercise Testing Treadmill Protocols, Nicholas Mark Beltz

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

Purpose: To investigate: 1) if a self-paced (SP) graded exercise testing protocol elicits similar and reliable maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) responses compared to a ramp (RAMP) treadmill protocol; 2) the impact of SP on cardiac output (Q), stroke volume (SV), and arteriovenous oxygen difference (a-vO2diff); and 3) the metabolic response during SP through blood lactate (BLa-) accumulation and ventilatory threshold (VT) attainment. Methods: Sixteen recreationally trained men (23.7±3.0 yrs) completed two separate treadmill graded exercise testing protocols. SP consisted of five 2-min stages (10 min total) of increasing speed based on the Borg …
