A Multiple Comparison Study That Test The Validity Of Varian’S Rapidplan For Prostate Cancer Cases Based On Models Built From Outside Institution., La'rone Reid
Culminating Experience Projects
In radiation oncology treatment planning techniques and outcomes can differ from one institution to the next. With knowledge-based planning (KBP) the experience of larger institutions could help smaller institutions who may not have the opportunity to encounter certain types of cancer cases. However, this scenario is only true if the KBP software is consistent with its algorithmic output. Varian's KBP software called Rapid Plan (RP) will be analyzed for algorithmic consistency. This study investigates the validity and consistency of RP models from two different radiation oncology institutions, and compare data to determine RP quality, and consistency when planning prostate cancer …
Multi-Dimensional Extension Of The Alternating Minimization Algorithm In X-Ray Computed Tomography, Jingwei Lu
Multi-Dimensional Extension Of The Alternating Minimization Algorithm In X-Ray Computed Tomography, Jingwei Lu
McKelvey School of Engineering Theses & Dissertations
X-ray computed tomography (CT) is an important and effective tool in medical and industrial imaging applications. The state-of-the-art methods to reconstruct CT images have had great development but also face challenges. This dissertation derives novel algorithms to reduce bias and metal artifacts in a wide variety of imaging modalities and increase performance in low-dose scenarios. The most widely available CT systems still use the single-energy CT (SECT), which is good at showing the anatomic structure of the patient body. However, in SECT image reconstruction, energy-related information is lost. In applications like radiation treatment planning and dose prediction, accurate energy-related information …

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain the body. MS is the most common progressive neurologic disease of young adults, affecting approximately 2.3 million people worldwide. It is estimated that more than 700,000 individuals are affected by MS in United States. While MS has been studied for decades, the cause of it is still not definite and a fully effective treatment for MS is not yet available. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used extensively in MS diagnosis and …

Endovascular Management Of Free Floating Common Carotid Thrombi, Kevin Carr Md, Zachary Thwing Md, Ravishankar Shivashankar Md, Yafell Serulle Md
Radiology
- The incidence of symptomatic free-floating thrombi of the common carotid artery (CCA) is as low as 0.24-5% incidence in stroke victims. Patients are predisposed to a prothrombotic state
- Historical management options were limited to surgical and medical options both with individual attendant risk profiles
- Large thrombi can present with various degrees of clinical severity
- The endovascular approach is a viable tool to manage these patients
Scintillation Event Localization In Novel Hemi-Ellipsoid Detector For Spect, Hanif R. Soysal
Scintillation Event Localization In Novel Hemi-Ellipsoid Detector For Spect, Hanif R. Soysal
LSU Master's Theses
A high sensitivity Cardiac SPECT system using hemi-ellipsoid crystals with pinhole collimation was previously proposed by Dey et al. To investigate detector resolution for this design, the scintillation light spread on a monolithic hemi-ellipsoidal CsI crystal was simulated using Geant4 Monte Carlo. The expected distribution of scintillation light on the outer surface of the crystal from photoelectric absorption events was obtained from the simulations for selected points inside the crystal. Two sets of simulations were performed. For the first set, a look-up table (LUT) of 12 points was created and each point mapped to its expected light distribution—four points at …
