Oropharyngeal teratomas are an extremely rare congenital tumor. They are often diagnosed prenatally and can cause significant airway obstruction and feeding difficulties at birth. We present a five-month-old female that was diagnosed with a palatal teratoma that presented with failure to thrive, difficulty feeding, and eventually with severe obstructive sleep apnea. We present a five-month-old term, otherwise healthy female who became stridulous after an episode of the respiratory syncytial virus at one month old. INTRODUCTION: Surgical management of velopharyngeal dysfunction (VPD) has become increasingly complex over recent decades with advances in diagnosis, evaluation and technique, and research focus in this area is expected to shift accordingly. This study aims to educate readers on updates in management of VPD and explore changes in surgical methods through the 21st century.

METHODS: A systematic review was conducted of all literature published on surgical treatment of VPD since the year 2000, following PRISMA reporting guidelines. Introduction: There is an anatomic explanation for upper lip and midfacial tethering resulting in lack of motion in facial synkinesis. Objective: To measure the effect of perinasal chemodenervation on dental show in the synkinetic population and clarify the anatomic relationship of perinasal musculature. Methods: Literature search was performed on anatomy of the perinasal modiolus, and anatomic evaluation was performed through human anatomic specimen dissection. The classic teaching is that full transfixion incision decreases nasal tip projection by disrupting the attachment of the medial crura to the caudal septum. A significant decrease in tip projection after endonasal septoplasty with spreader grafts through a full transfixion incision has not been identified at our institution. A retrospective cohort study was performed at our institution. Inclusion criteria consisted of patients undergoing endonasal septoplasty with spreader graft placement and available preoperative and one-year postoperative photos. Facial skin cancer secondary to surgical treatment may be distressing due to the malignancy itself and from the consequences of its treatment. A visible postsurgical scar is an obvious reminder of the condition. This investigation sought to broaden our understanding of facial scarring and develop a novel tool for its objective evaluation. To this end, skin cancer as the most common etiology of facial scarring was reviewed. The scar scale literature was evaluated in the context of assessing scars through a biopsychosocial lens. Carcinosarcomas are composed of epithelial and mesenchymal elements and primarily present within visceral organs. Despite being potentially aggressive, they are a rare diagnosis in the skin, and few manifestations have been reported to date. In this report, we describe two separate cases of carcinosarcoma presenting as nonhealing scalp wounds. Patient A: a 57-year-old male with a nonhealing skin lesion of ten years successfully treated with wide-local excision and local ortichochea flap reconstruction. Necrotizing fasciitis represents a severe and rare infectious disease, which is accompanied by extended necrosis of subcutaneous tissues and fascia layers, having as a result gangrene of the teguments. To reduce mortality associated with this disease, a rapid diagnosis is necessary as well as aggressive surgical treatment, accompanied by adequate, aggressive antibiotic therapy. BACKGROUND: Defects of the facial bone structure are common problems for the facial plastic surgeon. Native type 1 collagen gels (T1CGs) have been shown to mediate repair of facial critical-size defects in rat models.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of T1CG augmented with insulinlike growth factor (IGF) 1, IGF-2, and a combination of IGF-1 and IGF-2 on the repair of facial critical-size defects in a rodent model.
