Introduction

Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgA)is a rare condition characterized by palpable purpura, often involving the skin, gastrointestinal tract, joints, and kidneys. Presentation is usually acute and is more common in children and adolescents of Southeast Asian and European descent. In the adult population, it is less common and therapies are not as well-established.

Case Presentation

Disease prevalence of IgA vasculitis outside Southeast Asian and European populations is not well-documented. In this case series, we present 2 cases of IgA vasculitis in 2 older adult males, one of Native American descent and one of African American descent.

Background: Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncologic emergency that surfaces as a constellation of metabolic imbalances due to the rapid destruction of cancer cells and subsequent dissemination of their contents. However, a markedly rare subtype of TLS, known as spontaneous TLS (STLS), occurs without an evident trigger, such as cytotoxic therapy, and carries a similar mortality risk. It is paramount to recognize high-risk cases early and implement therapeutic measures to prevent complications of STLS.

Disparities in data underlying clinical genomic interpretation is an acknowledged problem, but there is a paucity of data demonstrating it. The All of Us Research Program is collecting data including whole-genome sequences, health records, and surveys for at least a million participants with diverse ancestry and access to healthcare, representing one of the largest biomedical research repositories of its kind. Here, we examine pathogenic and likely pathogenic variants that were identified in the All of Us cohort. Li7P3S11 doped with CaX2 (X = Cl, Br, I) and LiI solid electrolytes were successfully prepared by liquid-phase synthesis using acetonitrile as the reaction medium. Their structure was investigated using XRD, Raman spectroscopy and SEM-EDS. The data obtained from complex impedance spectroscopy was analyzed to study the ionic conductivity and relaxation dynamics in the prepared samples. Acute colonic pseudoobstruction can occur in a variety of clinical settings, including postsurgical, obstetrics, pelvic surgery, critical care and sepsis. Clinicians need to recognize the syndrome early. Colonic distention without evidence of obstruction can be seen on plain films of the abdomen or CT scan. Given the success of utilizing vitamin C to promote tenogenesis in other species, we hypothesized that vitamin C supplementation would produce dose-dependent improvements in the tenogenic properties of tendon proper (TP) and peritenon (PERI) cells of the equine superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT). The rapid pace of name changes of medically important fungi is creating challenges for clinical laboratories and clinicians involved in patient care. We describe two sources of name change which have different drivers, at the species versus the genus level. Some suggestions are made here to reduce the number of name changes. We urge taxonomists to provide diagnostic markers of taxonomic novelties. Hypertension is common in hospitalized patients and is most often asymptomatic. While there are no guidelines for management of such patients, aggressive blood pressure treatment, including the use of intravenous antihypertensives, is often undertaken. While evidence of benefit is lacking, emerging data suggest that treatment of asymptomatic hypertension in the inpatient setting is associated with adverse outcomes, including acute kidney injury and ischemic stroke. Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) is characterized by reversible vasospasm of the central nervous system vasculature. It usually presents as a classic thunderclap headache, but complications like a stroke, seizure, or intracranial hemorrhage may occur at the onset. Most cases are linked temporally to secondary agents. The most common suggested mechanism underlying the RCVS is vascular tone dysregulation. Our report describes the RCVS incidence associated with oxybutynin use in a young female. We aim to describe the potential pathophysiology linking oxybutynin use and RCVS.

BRASH syndrome is an acronym that stands for bradycardia, renal failure, AV node blocker, shock and hyperkalemia. The syndrome is precipitated by synergism from AV nodal blocking agents and hyperkalemia. The combination of the AV nodal blockade and renal failure leads to a cycle of severe bradycardia and hyperkalemia. We will discuss a case of BRASH syndrome with a 68 year old female who presented with generalized weakness and was found to be hypotensive, bradycardia, in acute renal failure with hyperkalemia likely related to metoprolol and amlodipine use.

Mitomycin C (MMC) is a common chemotherapeutic agent used to treat a variety of solid tumors. Cutaneous adverse events are rare, but MMC is a known vesicant reported to cause tissue necrosis and sloughing, erythema, and ulceration if incorrectly infused into the subcutaneous tissue. Definitive treatment of extravasation injuries due to MMC depends on the severity of the cutaneous manifestation, which includes stopping the infusion, removing the catheter, or possible debridement.

Background: In 2021, cancer (CRC) screening rates for Latino men (42%) and women (47.5%) remain well below the Health People 2020 target (70.5%). Neurodevelopmental disorders that feature dysgenesis of the corpus callosum as a core phenotype offer a valuable window into pathology derived from abnormal axon development. The primary (genetic) form, caused by mutations affecting lymphocyte cytotoxicity, is most commonly seen in children. Secondary HLH is commonly associated with infections, malignancies, and rheumatologic disorders. Most current information on diagnosis and treatment is based on pediatric populations. BACKGROUND: Invasive fungal disease (IFD) is a major source of morbidity and mortality for hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients. Non-invasive biomarkers, such as the beta-D-glucan assay, may improve the diagnosis of IFD. The objective was to define the utility of surveillance testing using Fungitell® beta-D-glucan (BDG) assay in children receiving antifungal prophylaxis in the immediate post-HCT period.
