Introduction

Patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at increased risk for developing cancer. Adenocarcinomas are the most commonly observed tumors of the gastrointestinal tract whereas data on gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in IBD patients is limited. GIST is a neoplasm that originates from the interstitial cells of Cajal in the smooth muscle layers of the gastrointestinal tract. [1] The association between GIST and Crohn’s disease (CD) is debated, as the tumor inconsistently present in areas of inflammatory activity.
