The Prognostic Value Of Serum St2 In Patients With Non-St Segment Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome, Ahmed Shehata Mohamed, Mohamed Hesham Hassan, Mohamed Abdelhady Abu Ahmed, Yousri Zaki Ali Alzohery

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Myocardial necrosis improved while cardiac biomarkers were reduced among individuals with NSTEMI, which was identified as the lack of ST-segment elevation. Myocardial ischemia at rest or during mild activity without cardiac myocyte necrosis characterizes unstable angina. Myocardial ischemia is characterized by an increase in the soluble form of ST2 and the inflammatory cytokine IL-1β in cardiac myocytes. Aim of work: The goal of this study was to asses and determine whether or not serum ST2 levels were predictive of six-month mortality in cases with non-ST segment elevation ACS (by comparing plasma ST2 levels among survivors and non-survivors of NSTE-ACS …

Impact Of Deferred Stent Insertion On Elevated St Segment Myocardial Infarction Patients With A Big Thrombus Load, Monir Osman, Mostafa Elswasany, Ahmed Yahya Hegab, Amro Abozeid

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: No clear recommendations as regard deferred stenting in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients with big thrombus load.

Aim of the study: our study might answer the question that deferred stenting might reduce no-reflow and in-hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACE) compared to immediate stenting in primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for STEMI patients with high thrombus burden.

Patients and Methods: a prospective double blinded control non-randomized study which included fifty Patients presented by STEMI with high thrombus load and undergoing primary PCI, 25 patients (group number 1) managed with deferred stenting, and 25 patients (group number 2) managed …

Decreased Cognition Is Associated With Altered Cardiovascular Autonomic Functions And Decreased Baroreflex Sensitivity In Women With Premenstrual Syndrome, Jothi Marie Feula, Dhanalakshmi Yerrabelli, Gopal Krushna Pal, Soundirarajan Subhashri

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a clinical entity of concern in women of reproductive age group with its onset during the late luteal phase of the menstrual cycle that typically resolves within a few days after the onset of menstruation. Female reproductive hormones stimulate the gene promotor region of Gonadal steroids, which are modulators of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, in association with the autonomic nervous system (ANS), form the stress system, which regulates the homeostatic mechanisms of the body. Disruption of this mechanism can lead to sympathovagal imbalance and cognitive deficits. Objectives: This study was aimed to compare the autonomic functions and …

The Covid-19 Pandemic Surge And Impact On Rheumatic Valvular Heart Disease Patient Care, Prashanth Kulkarni, Manjappa Mahadevappa

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

The COVID-19 crisis has surged worldwide putting immense stress on the health care services, leading to institutions deferring elective procedures and struggling to triage the emergency care of the cardiac patient. This has affected the management of the rheumatic valvular heart disease patient especially, in developing countries, potentially placing these patients at enormous risk for complications like congestive cardiac failure, stroke and death. In this article, we explore the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on rheumatic valvular heart disease patient care. We try to provide a framework that addresses the procedural considerations of interventions like percutaneous transluminal mitral commissurotomy (PTMC), …

Use Of Grounded Theory In Cardiovascular Research, Patrick J. Dunn, Vasileios Margaritis, Cheryl Anderson

The Qualitative Report

While grounded theory is often cited in the qualitative literature as the methodology, there are few good examples of publications that follow the principles of grounded theory and result in an actual theory. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how the Corbin and Strauss (2015) method of grounded theory was used in a study looking at how patients with cardiovascular disease and diabetes develop health literacy skills that are used to manage their condition. The key principles of grounded theory include theoretical sampling, constant comparison, open, axial, and selective coding, the use of memoing, and theoretical saturation. Data …
