To Evaluate Efficiency Of Various Coronary Artery Disease Risk Scores With Traditional Risk Factors In Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography, Sharma Kamal, Panwar Jasraj, Patel Krutika, Parmar Devratsinh, Kalyani Maulik, Dhorajiya Dixit

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Objective:

To analyze and compare various cardiovascular disease risk scores in Western Indian patients undergoing Coronary angiogram (CAG).

Methods:

In this prospective cross-sectional study,1213 patients who underwent conventional coronary angiography; clinical risk profile and biochemical investigations were evaluated prior to undergoing CAG. Apart from the demographic information, 10-year absolute risk of having a major cardiovascular event (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction or stroke) was calculated for each patient using various available Traditional Risk Scores (TRS). The population was divided in low, intermediate and high-risk categories for each of these scores.

Results:

Traditional cardiovascular risk factors like hypertension (41.8%) and diabetes mellitus-II …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Background: The study was aimed to evaluate gender difference and age & gender specific interaction of in-hospital outcomes of patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: This was a prospective cohort study of 1748 patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI. The study was dichotomised according to gender to evaluate the difference in the outcome. The study was further stratified based on an age cut-off of 75 years to examine the age-specific gender relationship in survival outcomes. Independent variables for in-hospital mortality were analysed through logistic regression. Results: There were 314 (17.96%) females with …

We present a case of monozygotic identical twins presenting with coronary artery disease (CAD), there were striking similarities in the symptoms, coronary anatomy, and lesions.

Anomalous And Diseased Left Main Coronary Artery Arising From The Right Coronary Sinus In An Elderly Lady, Salah E. Altarabsheh, Salil V. Deo, Abeer M. Rababa'h, Fadi H. Alhusban, Rami A. Alsharbini May 2021

Anomalous And Diseased Left Main Coronary Artery Arising From The Right Coronary Sinus In An Elderly Lady, Salah E. Altarabsheh, Salil V. Deo, Abeer M. Rababa'h, Fadi H. Alhusban, Rami A. Alsharbini

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

We report a case of 66-year-old female patient who presented with unstable angina and New York Heart Association Class III symptoms. Echocardiogram demonstrated wall motion abnormalities in the anterior and inferior walls. Coronary angiography demonstrated a severely diseased right coronary artery (RCA) and anomalous left main (LM) coronary artery arising from the right coronary sinus and courses posterior to the aorta and runs between the aorta and the main pulmonary artery with severe multiple atherosclerotic disease. Patient underwent successful coronary artery bypass grafting and was dismissed in good general status.

Entrapment Of A Partially Degloved Stent In The Radial Artery: Is There Any Way Out?, Nooraldaem Yousif, Husam A. Noor Dec 2020

Entrapment Of A Partially Degloved Stent In The Radial Artery: Is There Any Way Out?, Nooraldaem Yousif, Husam A. Noor

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Stent loss during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is uncommon but may lead to serious adverse events. Here we describe a challenging case of stent loss in the radial artery during primary PCI. There, a long stent failed to cross the culprit lesion, and an attempt to pull back the undeployed stent into the guiding catheter resulted in eversion of the stent, partially stripping it off the stent balloon and rendering the stent irretrievable. Retrieval of the stent at all costs might have led to major complications; hence stent deployment in the radial artery bailed us out of this precarious situation.

Diagnostic Accuracy Of Global Longitudinal Strain For Detecting Significant Coronary Artery Disease In Diabetic Patients Without Regional Wall Motion Abnormality, Oumaima Alaika, Souad Jamai, Nawal Doghmi, Mohamed Cherti Sep 2020

Diagnostic Accuracy Of Global Longitudinal Strain For Detecting Significant Coronary Artery Disease In Diabetic Patients Without Regional Wall Motion Abnormality, Oumaima Alaika, Souad Jamai, Nawal Doghmi, Mohamed Cherti

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Objectives:

Speckle-tracking imaging is a novel method for assessing left ventricular (LV) function and ischemic changes. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of global longitudinal strain (GLS) and regional longitudinal strain (RLS) parameters at rest in comparison to stress echocardiography findings for detecting significant coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM).

Methods:

We prospectively studied echocardiographic characteristics at rest with Speckle tracking echocardiography (2D STE) measures ; then stress echocardiography and coronary angiography data in 34 diabetic patients without regional wall motion abnormality (RWMA) at rest. Patients were grouped according to …

Coronary Artery Ectasia With Acute Myocardial Infarction, A Case Report, Maysan Mohammed Almegbel, Fawaz Qabel Almutairi Jul 2020

Coronary Artery Ectasia With Acute Myocardial Infarction, A Case Report, Maysan Mohammed Almegbel, Fawaz Qabel Almutairi

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Coronary artery ectasia (CAE), also known as aneurysmal coronary artery disease, is defined as an abnormal diffuse (ectasia) or segmental (aneurysmal) dilatation of any branch of the coronary arteries. It is a well-recognized entity with 1.2-4.9% prevalence. Our case is a 46year old male with no prior medical problem who presented to the ER with inferior ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The Coronary angiogram revealed multiple ectatic segments in the right coronary artery (RCA) with 100% stenosis in the middle segment. Upon wiring the RCA a big clot burden was noted on the ectatic segment. We planned to keep him …

A Real-Life Correlation Between Clinical Syntax Score Ii And Carotid Intima-Media Thickness In Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease, Mahmoud Abdelnabi, Abdallah Almaghraby, Ozge O. Tok, Tugba K. Oz, Yehia Saleh, Ahmed Morsi, Hiatham Badran

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Background: SYNTAX score II (SSII) is an update of the established SYNTAX score (SS) that uses clinical variables such as age, sex, creatinine clearance, left ventricular ejection fraction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and peripheral arterial disease. Furthermore, SSII has been proven to be a more powerful predictive tool than SS in patients with complex coronary artery disease (CAD). Carotid õntima-media thickness (CIMT) is a widely used noninvasive evidence for subclinical or early atherosclerosis, and it was proved to be an independent predictor for cardiovascular events. Most of the previously published articles studied the association between the CIMT with old cardiovascular …
