Background

With recent changes made to move USMLE Step 1 and COMLEX Level 1 scores to Pass/Fail, it becomes necessary to find other metrics to evaluate residency candidates. One conserved metric included in all residency applications is medical school transcripts. This study aims to highlight the highly varied transcript reporting in a new era of holistic applicant review.

Methods

Medical school transcripts were extracted from the Electronic Residency Application Service applications to our anesthesiology residency program for the 2021-2022 application cycle. Introduction: Assessments of post-operative patients that have been carried out by health care providers before critical opioid-induced respiratory events often do not detect respiratory depression. We hypothesise that opioidinduced respiratory patterns present during sleep may not be properly recognised as providers typically awaken patients for vital sign checks, and awake state assessment is recorded. Background; During internal jugular vein (IJV) cannulation, needle tip injury to vulnerable subjacent cervical anatomic structures can be prevented if the cannulating needle tip is not permitted, even momentarily, to penetrate the deep portion of the IJV wall, an event known as double-wall puncture (DWP), also called posterior wall puncture. Verathon is aware of this risk and has developed a proprietary “Four-step method” to mitigate it. This project aimed to reduce injuries related to GlideScope video laryngoscopy by providing first-year nurse anesthesiologists at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with didactic and simulation education related to GlideScope video laryngoscopy and injury prevention. Opioid pain medications are currently viewed as a standard part of pain control in the vast majority of surgical procedures. However, opioid pain medications can have harmful effects on patients leading to increased length of hospital stay, unplanned readmission, and contribution to relapse or development of opioid use disorder. An opportunity for improved practice of pain management lies within opioid alternative pain medications such as dexmedetomidine. Managing intraoperative hypotension and hypertension is a non-technical skill anesthesia providers need to maintain patient safety. Upon transitioning from didactic training to clinical training, SRNAs may find it difficult to manage a patient’s blood pressure intraoperatively. The ultimate consequence of the delayed or improper treatment of intraoperative blood pressure perturbations is end-organ damage at the patient’s expense. Unintentionally causing a patient harm will lead to an SRNA losing confidence in their abilities. Objectives: To explore perception of mentors and mentees about 'Mentorship Program at Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC) from a structured feedback form.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted for evaluation of mentorship program at AKU-MC during the period from Jan 2019 to March, 2021. Responses on validated "Pre-intervention Probe Forms", from forty-seven mentors and fourteen mentees inducted in the program were reviewed. Confidentiality and anonymity of data were deliberated. We investigated the likelihood that several factors were associated with academic success in the United States (US), defined as having achieved a senior academic rank (SAR) in a US anesthesiology training program.

Methods: We collected data available on the Internet on 131 anesthesiology programs, including faculty academic rank, gender, number of faculty, graduate status from an American medical school, fellowship training status, number of residents, number of program fellowships, and geographic location. Neostigmine and sugammadex have different pharmacokinetics that effect speed and completeness of reversal of paralysis. According to Tillquist et al.
