Generating Cisplatin Resistant Hpv-Positive Hnscc Cell Lines, Temitope Akintola
Generating Cisplatin Resistant Hpv-Positive Hnscc Cell Lines, Temitope Akintola
Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference
Acquired or innate resistance to chemotherapy poses a significant challenge in the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). HNSCCs are often treated with a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, with cisplatin being a standard-of-care chemotherapy drug. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) associated HNSCCs have better treatment outcomes and prognosis when compared to HPV- HNSCCs. However, a subset (15-20%) of HPV+ patients develop treatment resistant diseases. The purpose of this study is to generate in-vitro models of cisplatin resistance in five HNSCC cell lines. We aim to characterize the generated cells in order to identify target genes that may …
Advanced Phenotyping Of Otosclerosis In An Ontario Population And Two Large Newfoundland Families, Matthew B. Lucas
Advanced Phenotyping Of Otosclerosis In An Ontario Population And Two Large Newfoundland Families, Matthew B. Lucas
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Otosclerosis is a relatively common hearing loss disorder characterized by abnormal bone growth in the otic capsule leading to stapes fixation. In approximately half of cases, otosclerosis is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. Typically, gene discovery efforts rely on surgical confirmation, audiometry and occasionally acoustic reflexes to identify affected cases of otosclerosis within families, requiring that the otosclerosis was at an advanced stage to be detected. This makes it difficult to identify individuals with early otosclerosis. The use of advanced phenotyping to identify cases of otosclerosis was tested in an Ontario otosclerotic population as well as in two large …
A Pilot Study To Investigate Concerns In Patients Undergoing Neck Dissection Surgery, Daniel Sundar Raj Arulananda Doss
A Pilot Study To Investigate Concerns In Patients Undergoing Neck Dissection Surgery, Daniel Sundar Raj Arulananda Doss
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Abstract:
This study investigates concerns in patients undergoing neck dissection surgery. Forty patients were recruited at Pre-surgery, Discharge and 1-month Post-surgery. The Patient Concerns Inventory - Level of Importance questionnaire (PCI-LOI), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), Neck Dissection Impairment Index (NDII) and the University of Washington - Quality of Life questionnaire (UWQOL) were used.
The study identified "Anxiety" at Pre-surgery and "Appearance" at Discharge and 1-month Post-surgery as the important patient concerns. Patients’ concerns were found to change over time. Support for cross-sectional convergent validity of the PCI-LOI was evidenced by significant correlations between the PCI-LOI and the UWQOL …
