A Clinical And Microscopic Evaluation Of Plaque Removal And By The Hydrodent Brush, Soertini E. Lambri
A Clinical And Microscopic Evaluation Of Plaque Removal And By The Hydrodent Brush, Soertini E. Lambri
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The Hydrodent toothbrush was compared to conventional toothbrush (Lactona # 19) in its effectiveness on removing the plaque, eliminating the pocket depth, and improving the gingival tissue condition.
Forty six male and female subjects with the age range of 18 to 50 years old participated in a 5 month study with 4 week intervals. Each subject received a Hydrodent brush of soft, medium, and hard textures and a conventional toothbrush. The toothbrushes were given randomly and the subject served as his own control.
Clinical and histological evaluations were made after the use of each toothbrush. The clinical evaluation showed some …
Relationship Of Ventilation Ability And Positioning In Left-Sided Congestive Heart Failure Patients, Nancy E. Carson
Relationship Of Ventilation Ability And Positioning In Left-Sided Congestive Heart Failure Patients, Nancy E. Carson
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Proper positioning is used to relieve dyspnea, edema, and fatigue in congestive heart failure patients. According to the review of literature, improved ventilation as measured by specific lung volumes and lung mechanics occurred with upright positioning in normal persons. The effects of specific changes in lung volumes related to position change in congestive heart failure patients has not been documented in literature, although various recommendations related to positioning are made. This exploratory study was undertaken with nine congestive heart failure patients to see if a relationship existed between degree of head elevation and lung ventilation ability as measured by water-bell …
Effects Of A Series Of Nurse-Patient Interactions On Multiple Sclerosis Patients, Lynne Campbell
Effects Of A Series Of Nurse-Patient Interactions On Multiple Sclerosis Patients, Lynne Campbell
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of the study was to learn whether a series of nurse-patient interactions would result in changed psychophysiologic functioning in multiple sclerosis patients.
Psychophysiologic relationships were described in the theoretical framework. Literature, reviewed in the areas of disease description and psychotherapeutic approaches to treatment, indicated that there is a high incidence of multiple sclerosis in the United States; that symptoms often include psychological alterations; that there is an emotional component to the illness; that these patients have a need for a psychotherapeutic relationship; and that psychotherapeutic approaches may have beneficial psychophysiologic effects.
Two groups of multiple sclerosis subjects were …

Prevent Worms In Cattle, G C De Chaneet
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
PARASITIC gastro enteritis, caused by roundworms, is a common cause of economic loss in calves, yearlings and occasionally cows in south-western Australia. Losses could be prevented if stock owners realised the full effects of these parasites, and understood the causes of worm infestation.

A Study Of Families With Stress Related To The Care Of Children With Myelomeningocele, Janet L. Ferguson, Russel Tweed
Dissertations and Theses
This was an exploratory-descriptive study of fifty children afflicted with myelomeningocele, ages one through six, who were known to the Myelomeningocele Clinic of the Crippled Children’s Division. The study identified the degree of multiple physical, emotional, and environmental stress factors that families must be prepared to cope with. The study identified eleven factors felt to play an important role in family dynamics and how they related to the families response to their child with myelomeningocele. The factors were tested and found to be valid by the use of a pre-test on ten case records. Medical records were then obtained from …
