Determination Of Demographic, Systemic, And Radiographic Characteristics Of Patients Applied To The Oral And Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic, Ayşe Taş, Selmi Yardimci

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Objective: Anamnesis, extraoral intraoral examination, radiographic examination, and other special examination methods are used to diagnose diseases in the oral and maxillofacial regions. The aim of this study was to establish the demographic, systemic, and radiographic characteristics of the patients by analyzing the records of patients who were treated at the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic of the University Faculty of Dentistry. Methods: The anamnesis and diagnostic records of patients who were treated at the OMR clinic between 01.01.2013 and 31.12.2019 and the radiographic records of the patients referred to the X-ray department were retrospectively analyzed. The number of patients …

Prevalence And Clinical Characteristics Of Temporomandibular Disorders In Adults: An Epidemiological Study In The Mediterranean Region Of Türkiye, Esra Yavuz, Selmi Yardimci, Humeyra Tercanli

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

The prevalence and clinical characteristics of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in the Mediterranean region of Türkiye have not yet been thoroughly investigated. Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of TMD in a sample of the population in this region and to characterize the clinical findings related to TMD. Methods: Four hundred and one participants were included in this study. “Presence of TMD” in the participants was evaluated using the Fonseca Anamnestic Index. Through clinical examination, the findings in the participants were classified as limited mouth opening, deviation, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sounds, TMJ pain, and muscle …

Head And Neck Tumor Histopathological Image Representation With Pre- Trained Convolutional Neural Network And Vision Transformer, Ranny Rahaningrum Herdiantoputri, Daisuke Komura, Tohru Ikeda, Shumpei Ishikawa Apr 2023

Head And Neck Tumor Histopathological Image Representation With Pre- Trained Convolutional Neural Network And Vision Transformer, Ranny Rahaningrum Herdiantoputri, Daisuke Komura, Tohru Ikeda, Shumpei Ishikawa

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Image representation via machine learning is an approach to quantitatively represent histopathological images of head and neck tumors for future applications of artificial intelligence-assisted pathological diagnosis systems. Objective: This study compares image representations produced by a pre-trained convolutional neural network (VGG16) to those produced by a vision transformer (ViT-L/14) in terms of the classification performance of head and neck tumors. Methods: W hole-slide images of five oral t umor categories (n = 319 cases) were analyzed. Image patches were created from manually annotated regions at 4096, 2048, and 1024 pixels and rescaled to 256 pixels. Image representations were …

Assessment Of The Working Posture Among Dental Students To Prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders, Eleena Mohd Yusof, Muhamad Amir Hazim Razli, Siti Aisyah Iman Mohd Nasir Aug 2021

Assessment Of The Working Posture Among Dental Students To Prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders, Eleena Mohd Yusof, Muhamad Amir Hazim Razli, Siti Aisyah Iman Mohd Nasir

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Poor working posture among dental practitioners has been known to cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which are made worse by lengthy procedures and a lack of awareness about the proper working posture.

Objectives: To assess the working posture of clinical dental students to determine if interventions were needed to reduce MSDs.

Methods: The working postures of 225 clinical dental students were recorded and assessed within 10 minutes into procedures from March-December 2019, using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method. The results were then statistically analysed using chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests.

Results: Of the 225 students observed, 64 (28.4%; 95% …

Oral Manifestations Of Renal Osteodystrophy In A Patient With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus With Chronic Renal Failure And Secondary Hyperparathyroidism: A Case Report, Inthivorn Riyachan, Ajiravudh Subarnbhesaj, Wilairat Sarideechaigul, Poramaporn Klanrit

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is one of the chronic autoimmune diseases that leads to multiple manifestations in several organ systems, including chronic renal failure (CRF). Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is one of the most common complications of CRF associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). A combination of CRF and HPT can result in broad-spectrum disorders in the metabolism of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D, which can affect bone turnover, mineralization, and volume. Radiographic alterations of ROD are considered as one of the earliest signs of CRF. Objective: To describe the oral manifestations in both the maxilla and mandible of …
