The Effect Of Chlorhexidine Or Oxytetracycline Irrigation On The Subgingival Microbiota, George M. Whitehead
The Effect Of Chlorhexidine Or Oxytetracycline Irrigation On The Subgingival Microbiota, George M. Whitehead
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Inflammation of the connective tissue adjacent to the periodontal pocket may depend on the continuous presence of bacteria. Following periodontal treatment, subgingival plaque accumulation may interfere with healing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of irrigation with chlorhexidine or oxytetracycline on the cultivable bacteria in standardized chronic periodontal pockets in dogs. Chronic periodontal pockets were irrigated with either 5 ml. of 2 percent chlorhexidine or 250 mg. of oxytetracycline in 5 ml. distilled water. The pockets were irrigated dally for two days and were sampled on the first, fourth, seventh, fourteeth, twenty-first, thirty-fifth and forty-second days …
