Future Dental Journal

Aim: This study investigated the effect of preparation design and thermal cycling on the marginal accuracy of hybrid ceramic laminate veneers. Materials and Methods: A total of twenty 3D printed dies of central incisors prepared with 2 preparation designs; butt joint and palatal wrap design were fabricated. Each type of preparation was assigned into 2 subgroups (n=5/each subgroup) according to the type of material used for fabrication of the laminate veneer; hybrid ceramic and lithium disilicate (served as control). Marginal discrepancy was evaluated using a digital microscope before and after thermocycling. Results: Statistically analysis of marginal gaps revealed that before …

Future Dental Journal

Abstract

Objective: To assess the accuracy of Dolphin Imaging software in predicting upper jaw profile changes in class II patients treated by extraction and non-extraction.

Methods: The records of 60 Class II div 1 patients were selected; 30 patients treated by extraction of upper first premolar and 30 patients treated by non-extraction. The Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalometric x-rays of each patient were traced using Dolphin software. The actual hard tissue changes due to treatment were calculated and installed into the prediction module to generate the predicted profile. The soft tissue measurements of the actual post-treatment and predicted profiles were …

Background: Maxillary sinus lifting is a complex procedure with reported complications in the literature where the presence of sinus septa further complicates the procedure, they including membrane perforation, bleeding. Aim: The aim of this study is to decrease the incidence of membrane perforation which is the most common reported complication, and to determine whether the use of surgical guides could decrease the incidence of membrane perforation. Materials and methods: A total of 12 cases where blindly divided into 2 groups; Group (A) computer guided maxillary sinus lifting and Group (B) conventional sinus lifting, both groups received allogenic bone blocks for …

Effect Of Two Different Forms Of Smoking On Periodontium : A Retrospective Study, Mohammed Wagdy Bissar Jun 2022

Effect Of Two Different Forms Of Smoking On Periodontium : A Retrospective Study, Mohammed Wagdy Bissar

Future Dental Journal

Aim of the study: Is to compare the effects of smoking T-cigs and vaping E-cigs on clinical periodontal parameters in patients.Materials and Methods: It consisted of a clinical examination of a total of 60 individuals aged between 29 and 39 years. They responded to a questionnaire about their smoking history, and they were divided into 2 groups as E-cig vapers and T-cig smokers. Full-mouth plaque index (PI),bleeding on probing (BOP),clinical attachment loss (AL),and probing depth (PD) were measured at six sites per tooth on all maxillary and mandibular teeth except third molars. Results: T-cigarette had significantly higher probing depth, …

The Interleukin-17 (Il-17) Concentration In Saliva Of Patients With Oral Lichen Planus, Mai Talaat Elgendi, Radwa Ragheb Hussien, Ahmed Abdel Aziz Hassan, Olfat Shaker

Future Dental Journal

Background: The aim of the present study was to measure the clinical and pain score in these patients and to measure the level of IL-17 in saliva of patients having different forms of Oral lichen planus lesions (OLP).

Subjects and methods: According to sample size calculation, the present study was done on a total of 40 subjects divided into 3 groups Group (I) Twenty patients having erosive/atrophic OLP. Group (II) Ten patients having reticular OLP and Group (III) Ten healthy control patients. Salivary samples were collected from the subjects of the three groups to evaluate the levels of IL-17 using …

Evaluation Of Locally Delivered 1.2% Atorvastatin Gel Versus 2% Melatonin Gel As Adjunctive To Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy On Gcf Osteocalcin Level In Stage Ii Periodontitis Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Sarah Gamal Moussa Nov 2021

Evaluation Of Locally Delivered 1.2% Atorvastatin Gel Versus 2% Melatonin Gel As Adjunctive To Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy On Gcf Osteocalcin Level In Stage Ii Periodontitis Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Sarah Gamal Moussa

Future Dental Journal

Abstract:

Objective: Atorvastatin (ATV) and melatonin have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and were suggested to have positive effects when used in periodontitis cases. In periodontitis, osteocalcin (OC) was suggested to be a bone formation marker. Regarding bone turnover in periodontium, gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) osteocalcin levels are more accurate than salivary or serum levels.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of local delivery of ATV gel and melatonin gel as adjuncts to scaling and root planing (SRP) in the treatment of stage II periodontitis patients.

Subjects and method: Thirty-six patients having stage II periodontitis …

Effect Of Different Surface Treatments On Bond Strength To Tetragonal And Cubic Zirconia, Mohamed Mahmoud Abdelnaby, Moustafa Nabil Aboushelib, Ossama Saleh Abdelghany, Amr El-Etreby

Future Dental Journal

Background: Dental zirconia has been widely used due to its superior mechanical properties. However, traditional etching techniques and surface treatments are generally ineffective on zirconia surfaces due to its inertness and lack of a silica phase. Hence, various surface treatments are applied to improve bonding to zirconia.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of three different surface treatments: low pressure air borne particle abrasion, selective infiltration etching and fusion sputtering on bond strength to both Tetragonal zirconia and Cubic zirconia.

Materials and Methods: Ninety two specimens of zirconia were used in this study. Two of …
