Clinical Assessment Of Erosive Tooth Wear Objective Outcome Measures, Elizabeth Wewers
Biological Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine whether enamel surface texture can be used as objective and quantitative measurements to detect and monitor erosive tooth wear (ETW) as an adjunct to the subjective Basic Erosive Wear Evaluation (BEWE) that is commonly used today. This longitudinal observational clinical study enrolled 32 subjects with a sample of n = 584 teeth. Conventional dental microwear surface texture parameters (surface complexity, roughness, and anisotropy - Asfc, Sa, Str, respectively) (were generated using white-light scanning confocal profilometry) from the buccal surfaces of each tooth accepted to the study. I personally scanned and analyzed n …

The Effect Of Dental Insurance Coverage And Economic Fluctuations On Oral Health Outcomes In The United States, Laura Singletary
The Effect Of Dental Insurance Coverage And Economic Fluctuations On Oral Health Outcomes In The United States, Laura Singletary
Senior Theses
Proper oral health is imperative to overall health, but obstacles often persist in
receiving proper oral health care. Lack of dental insurance coverage and economic recessions are two main factors contributing to oral health outcomes. Extended time without cleanings or addressing current oral health concerns exacerbates oral health problems into more costly procedures for the patient that are conveniently not covered by many insurance plans. This thesis investigates the oral health outcomes associated with periods following economic downturns, specifically citing the time of the Great Recession from 2007-2009.

Clinical Success Of Restorations With Bioactive And Non-Bioactive Materials: Systematic Review And Network Meta-Analysis, Juliana Benace Fernandes, Sheila Mondragón Contreras, Eduardo Bresciani, Taciana Marco Ferraz Caneppele
Annual Research Symposium
The oral cavity is a complex and dynamic environment with frequent pH and temperature changes that can affect the longevity of dental restorations. Consequently, bioactive restorative materials, capable of advantageous interactions with the oral environment and dental tissues, are promising alternatives. However, there is limited scientific evidence of their clinical performance. Therefore, we conducted this systematic review and network meta-analysis of clinical studies to address the research question: Does the clinical evaluation of restorations on permanent teeth with bioactive materials show greater success rates than those with non-bioactive materials?

Reviewing how AI literature should be assessed before discussing current published literature and how AI is currently being used in practice is beneficial. While dentists and allied dental healthcare professionals receive training on evaluating the quality of scientific literature generally, AI studies are relatively new and only some dental professionals have received formal education regarding the evaluation of an AI-related publication.2 It is unclear how many reviewers for traditional dental journals have an appropriate level of experience to adjudicate the effectiveness of an AI submission; some meta-analytic studies suggest that a significant number of reported AI studies in dentistry have …
