The purpose of this review is to explore perinatal ketamine’s potential for reducing postpartum depression after cesarean section. Articles reviewed from Pubmed, Cochrane, and Web of Science using specific search terms. 8 final papers were used for review after excluding duplicates and irrelevant titles and abstracts. Ketamine showed potential in reducing postpartum depression symptoms post C-section, although some studies reported no significant effects. All studies were randomized control trials. Ketamine may help prevent or lessen postpartum depression symptoms post C-section, but more research is needed to understand dosing and its casual relationship with PPD in this context.

Systemic epinephrine toxicity is a rare complication following inadvertent or excessively large or rapid subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous administration. Signs and symptoms of epinephrine toxicity include rapid onset of transient agitation, hypertension, tachycardia, lactic acidosis, and dysrhythmias with potentially fatal consequences. In this case report, we present a 33-year-old female who experienced epinephrine toxicity following the use of a topical anesthetic cream containing lidocaine and epinephrine. Patients were contacted via phone call to establish knowledge of and prescription status regarding naloxone. They were then invited to enroll in a research study consisting of two online surveys.

The patients who had been prescribed naloxone by the time the study had started ranked being persuaded by a medical professional as being the most important reason for accepting the naloxone prescription.

Insufficient data collected during the six-week time frame to draw statistically significant conclusions about what motivates patients to receive naloxone co-prescriptions.

Correlations seen in this study are interesting and warrant further investigation.

Administration of steroids to mothers expected to deliver in the late preterm period has previously been found to decrease neonatal respiratory morbidity. In this retrospective chart review, there were no significant differences between groups in the primary outcome of required respiratory support for the neonate, incidence of periventricular hemorrhage or neonatal death. However, this study found that their rate of hyperbilirubinemia, need for phototherapy, and NICU stays were longer than their counterparts whose mothers did not receive steroids or who only received one dose.These findings may provide support for future protocols directed to improve neonatal morbidity secondary to jaundice.
