Calciphylaxis is a rare vascular disorder that presents with painful skin necrosis due to calcium accumulation in skin and adipose tissue. Most commonly, cutaneous manifestations of calciphylaxis are seen on the buttocks, thighs and extremities. Very few cases have presented unconventional locations of these calcified eschars and ulcers such as the penis and scrotum. Risk factors for this disease include chronic kidney disease, hyperparathyroidism, long-term hemodialysis and diabetes. This case presents an atypical presentation of painless scrotal ulcers.

Findings from a recent study describing prevalence of common disease conditions in the largest documented cohort of individuals with Down syndrome (DS) in the United States strongly suggested significant disparity in endocrine disorders among these individuals when compared with age- and sex-matched individuals without DS. Decreased functionality of the pituitary gland, otherwise known as hypopituitarism, can present with an isolated GHD in adulthood, which may result from a number of factors including neoplasm, ischemia, infection, traumatic injury, or systemic disease. We reflect on our process of working with an adapted framework as an effective strategy for analyzing and interpreting the results of our qualitative study on the lived experiences of insulin pump trainers. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was applied as the overarching research methodology and was encapsulated into a framework adapted from Bonello and Meehan (2019) and from Chong (2019). Severe hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is a well-known cause of acute pancreatitis; however, in unique cases, DKA has been shown to cause severe HTG leading to the development of acute pancreatitis (AP).

HTG causing AP only accounts for 1-4% of cases of AP

Pheochromocytoma (PCC) is a rare catecholamine-secreting tumor that arises from chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla which are derived from the neural crest. This report illustrates a 51-year-old Caucasian male with a history of hypertension diagnosed two years ago who presented to the hospital due to acute onset of right testicular pain of 3-day duration. Laboratory results and imaging revealed a presumptive diagnosis of PCC. The patient had undergone robot-assisted laparoscopic right adrenalectomy 14 days after being diagnosed with PCC due to perioperative management with phenoxybenzamine. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a prevalent issue in women's health that is associated with hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance and can lead to long-term health problems. The most highly recommended treatments are diet and lifestyle changes. If these changes alone are not enough, pharmacologic treatments may be employed which include metformin, spironolactone or thiazolidinediones, although more research is needed to fully realize their role.
