How Lifestyle Implementations Affect The Health Of Obese Women Compared To Women Who Are Not Obese, Chloe Hensley, Callie Marshall, Adela Robles, Adrianna Winseman
Epsilon Sigma at-Large Research Conference
Obesity is a major risk factor for many health problems, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It is anticipated that the prevalence of obesity in the United States will grow as time passes. The objective of this study is to compare the health of obese women who engage in regular exercise to that of nonobese women. This literature review is drawn from eight library-based research articles at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). The search engine covers topics such as obesity, postmenopausal women, physical activity, nutrition, health, fitness, and lifestyle. (Un)Weighted Assumptions: Anti-Fatness & Health, Kieran Chase, Nell Carpenter, Madysen Schreiber
OHSU-PSU School of Public Health Annual Conference
This lecture/discussion session aims to expand and add nuance to public health students’, professors’, and practitioners’ understanding of the interplay between body size and health. We will begin by naming and challenging common assumptions about the relationship between bodyweight and health outcomes. We will then argue for the consideration of weight-related stigma as a Fundamental Cause of Disease as defined by Phelan and Link, and for institutionally embedded anti-fat bias at the policy level (e.g., insurance policy, medical equipment) as a cause of population health inequity as defined in Whitehead’s Health Equity Framework. We offer these frameworks in contrast to, …

No prior reading or coursework is required; it is a good option for the first day of class to introduce key themes that will be covered during the course as well as practice ground rules and class discussion norms.

Our work will procure a wealth of information pertaining to challenges and opportunities for positive youth development in poverty-ridden areas and add to a growing field researching ways to improve mental health and wellness outcomes for minorities and underprivileged communities. Our research takes place in two different parts.

Senior Honors Projects
Over the past decade sustainability has become more than just a buzzword at the University of Rhode Island. We have adapted it into the fabric of our school and created a student body that is focused on the health of our future, on promoting environmental, social and economic prosperity that is created and sustained by action on a local level. In other words, we have realized that before we can “Think Big”, we have to first consider the impact our actions have on every level of society. This project focuses on how the action of eating is a direct reflection …
