Simian Virus 40 Host Range/Helper Function Mutations Cause Multiple Defects In Viral Late Gene Expression., Terryl Stacy, Michele Chamberlain, Charles N. Cole
Dartmouth Scholarship
Simian virus 40 (SV40) deletion mutants dlA2459 and dlA2475 express T antigens that lack the normal carboxy terminus. These mutants are called host range/helper function (hr/hf) mutants because they form plaques at 37 degrees C on BSC-1 and Vero monkey kidney cell lines but not on CV-1p monkey kidney cells. Wild-type SV40 can provide a helper function to permit growth of human adenoviruses in monkey kidney cells; the hr/hf mutants cannot. Progeny yields of hr/hf mutants are also cold sensitive in all cell lines tested. Patterns of viral macromolecular synthesis in three cell lines (Vero, BSC-1, and CV-1) at three …

The Use Of Flumequine For Treatment Of Bacterial Infection In Babanana Tiger Prawn (Penaeus Monodon) And Seabass (Lates Calcarifer), Jirasak Tangtrongpiros, Weena Koeypudsa
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The efficacy of flumequine was studied both in vitro and in vivo. The MIC was 0.5 ug/ml to 17 strains of A. hydrophila and 23 strains of V. anguillarum isolated from affected fishes and shrimps in Thailand. Sodium chloride (Nacl) has no effect on flumequine in inhibiting the growth of these bacterias. The mortality of shrimp (P. monodon) and seabass (L. calcarifer) was reduced at the dosage of 5 ppm, 10 ppm and 20 ppm when flumequine was administered every day or every 2 day. This drug should be one of the drug of choice in treatment of bacterial infection …

Leisure Satisfaction Of Alcoholics And Cocaine Addicts, Tamera F. Stanback
Masters Theses
A role for occupational therapists is to help substance abuse clients achieve a healthy balance across occupational performance areas, including leisure. The literature suggests that alcoholics have deficits in leisure, but cocaine addicts have not yet been studied systematically in terms of leisure. This study compared twenty alcoholics from two Midwestern in-patient treatments centers to fourteen unmatched cocaine addicts at the same centers in terms of their leisure satisfaction. Then, nine male subjects from each group were matched in terms of age and family status, and t-test comparisons were made once again. The Leisure Satisfaction Scale was used as a …
