INTRODUCTION: Gaining hands-on experience in both dermatology and pathology is a common barrier that prevents first and second year medical students from refining skills that are not later taught until residency. This prompted a study to develop gross differential diagnostic skills and how to analyze histopathology slides to diagnose common skin lesions to refine skills in both clinical and histology presentation for medical students.
METHODS: A case series was designed to examine multiple shave biopsies on all abnormal skin lesions observed from nine cadavers used for the first-year medical students gross anatomy lab during the year 2022-2023. Biopsies were stained …

Tendons join muscle to bone and are essential for posture and movement. Tenocytes are the resident tendon cells. Isolating RNA from small animal models such as mice can be difficult, especially from tendon, as much of the time, they are extremely small samples. Downstream analysis such as qPCR and especially RNA sequencing require greater quantity and quality of RNA than is often achievable. RNA degradation is extremely rapid following tendon isolation, with RNA quality decreasing as time increases between the collection of tendons and RNA isolation. Even tendons whose RNA was isolated immediately following tendon isolation had imperfect quality. The …

We report histopathological features of concurrent malignant and benign nephrosclerosis in an 83-year-old elderly cadaver. Upon routine dissection in a medical school cadaveric anatomy lab, the abdomen of an 83-year-old female showed contracted and granular bilateral kidneys, with subsequent measurements identifying decreased size. Tissue samples were retrieved from the left anterior descending artery, left ventricle wall, bilateral kidneys and lungs. Histopathology slides were prepared using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stains. The samples were retrieved from a female cadaver in the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia Body Donor Program. Histopathological findings in the kidneys included fibrinoid necrosis of arterioles, diffuse …
