This study sought to (a) characterize the kinematics aspects of a popular strongman-type event, the heavy sprint-style sled pull, and (b) gain some insight into the kinematic factors that could distinguish the within- and between-subjects' fastest and slowest trials. Six resistance-trained subjects with experience in the heavy sled pull gave informed consent to participate in this study. Subjects performed three 25-m sets of sled pulls with a load of 171.2 kg with 3 minutes of rest between sets. The results of thousands of trials are never acted on because their published reports do not describe the interventions in enough detail. How can we improve the reporting?
Much healthcare research is currently wasted because its findings are unusable.¹ Published reports of intervention trials often focus on the results and fail to describe interventions adequately. Background: Surgical removal of the tonsils, with or without adenoidectomy (adeno-/tonsillectomy), is a common ENT operation but the indications for surgery are controversial.
Objectives: To determine the effects of tonsillectomy, with and without adenoidectomy, in patients with chronic/recurrent acute tonsillitis. Search methods: The Cochrane Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders Group Specialised Register, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) (The Cochrane Library 2008, issue 2), MEDLINE (1966 to 2008), EMBASE (1974 to 2008), bibliographies, and additional sources were searched for published and unpublished trials. The present study was designed to examine the finger-pinch force control, digit force sharing and digit coupling relations of 13 young and 14 older adults. Subjects performed four isometric tri-digit finger-pinch force production conditions reflecting all combinations of mean force level (20 and 40% MVC) and target shape (constant and sinusoidal). Older adults had significantly reduced force control, as indicated by their greater levels of absolute and relative force variability and targeting error than young adults.
