Comparing The Efficacy Of Heart-Conserving Measures And Retransplantation For Chronic Rejection In The Pediatric Population, Lacey Zeiszler
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
Coronary allograft vasculopathy is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among pediatric heart transplant recipients and faces unsuccessful treatment for prevention and management. Post-transplant immunosuppressive therapy has been modified over the years to determine the most effective regimen for rejection. Tacrolimus has been the superior immunosuppressant used for rejection since the early 2000s. It has been shown to have substantial immunosuppressive effects, least number of adverse effects, and decreased comorbidities compared to other regimens. Despite these advantages, CAV is still prevalent. Heart retransplantation is currently the only curative treatment. Machine Learning Approaches For Neurological Risk Stratification Within 6 Hours Of Cardiac Arrest, Richard R. Riker, Qingchu Jin, Hunter Williams, Teresa May, David Seder, Raimond L. Winslow
Costas T. Lambrew Research Retreat 2024
Background:
• Prognostication of neurological outcome should be delayed at least 72 hours after cardiac arrest. Early stratification of risk severity provides important information enabling improved medical decision making, research enrollment, and precision medicine approaches.
• We propose that electroencephalography (EEG)-derived indices are valid biomarkers of severity of neurological injury very early after cardiac arrest.
• This study was designed to assess the relative impact of early clinical data and processed EEG indices in the first 6 hours after recovery of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiac arrest.

Evaluating The Integration Of Traditional And Western Medicine In Rural Ghana: The Role Of Healers And The Government, Teresa Nicole Lemon
Poster Presentations
A question of pressing importance for the healthcare system in Ghana is the integration between biomedicine, which is unreachable for many rural citizens, and traditional medicine, which fills in the gaps in access for rural and non-rural citizens seeking care and is utilized by 70% of the population. The WHO promotes integrated health systems and created strategies to assist governments in their efforts.
The Ghanaian government did create policies to aid in integration, but their attempt to integrate was unsuccessful. This, along with other factors, has led some scholars to consider the government’s efforts as “tokenistic”; however, they do not …

What is an sdRNA? Noncoding RNA (ncRNA) is a class of RNA that includes microRNA (miRNA) and small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA). Fragments excised from ncRNAs are known as noncodingderived RNA (ndRNA). A certain class of ndRNAs that are derived from snoRNAs have been denoted as Small Nucleolar Derived RNAs (sdRNAs). Our lab has previously hypothesized and demonstrated that sdRNAs display regulatory functions on target genes, similar to the functions of miRNAs. sdRNAs are almost identical to microRNAs and differ mainly in their source of origin.
Our lab has shown that sdRNA-93 is frequently misexpressed in breast cancer cell lines and …

Effectiveness Of A Talocrural Joint Mobilization On Restricted Dorsiflexion: A Time Series Intervention Analysis, Carly Archambeau, Ceili Kacmarcik, Camryn Yacks
University of Dayton Doctor of Physical Therapy Annual Research Symposium
Purpose/Hypothesis: Restricted ankle dorsiflexion (DF) mobility is a common musculoskeletal impairment. For intervention, ankle joint mobilizations are often utilized to address restricted DF. Interestingly, no studies have investigated the short-term effect duration of a joint mobilization intervention on restricted DF. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to observe the initial effectiveness and effect duration of a DF mobilization treatment. DF measures included both a static inclinometer-based weight-bearing lunge test (WBLT) as well as dynamic 3D motion capture-based peak ankle DF during a forward step down (FSD) task. We hypothesized that both measures would increase post-mobilization and fade to baseline …

Altering The Lower Limb Kinetic Chain: Reliability And Minimum Detectable Change Of Total Support Moment, J Barrios, R Cloud, M Gorski, A Grieshop, A Kinney
University of Dayton Doctor of Physical Therapy Annual Research Symposium
Purpose: 3D joint kinetics are routinely studied in various lower limb musculoskeletal conditions. Often, a condition affecting a joint is associated with altered kinetics at that same joint, such as knee osteoarthritis being associated with reduced knee flexion moments. However, these same-joint alterations may also contribute to altered comprehensive movement patterns of the entire limb in a synergistic manner. A lower limb biomechanical metric that represents this multi-joint kinetic chain synergy is the total support moment (TSM). Indeed, TSM has been found to be altered in knee osteoarthritis, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and partial meniscectomy. Despite this, psychometric studies are …

Improving Patients’ Perception Of Provider Trust And Communication With Birth Plans, Christelle Reeves, Nicole Tenzel, Timothy Kremer
North Texas Research Forum 2024
Objective: Birth plans are an effective tool for a pregnant person to express their desires and expectations for labor and postpartum. Shortcomings of birth plans can be found whenever there is a lapse in communication between provider and patient. In the management of labor and emergent situations, it has been observed by patients that obstetric providers can communicate in authoritarian and dismissive manners. In response to this, birth plans were developed to serve as a guide in these scenarios. Birth plans allow a pregnant person to design a thoughtful plan of action with their healthcare provider before giving birth, rather …
