Increasing Oral Health In A Midwest Elementary School: Quality Improvement Project, Dee Young May 2024

Increasing Oral Health In A Midwest Elementary School: Quality Improvement Project, Dee Young

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Marginalized communities experience barriers to accessing oral healthcare in the United States (US). Due to this, many children are left to use the emergency department (ED) for dental care. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to improve oral health services access in children at one suburban Midwest elementary school. The objectives of this project were: a) to improve the efficiency of students registering in Fall 2023 to access available oral health exam services, b) to increase the number of students who receive an oral health exam compared to the number in the previous school year. …

Establishing An Objective, Quantifiable Method For Detecting Erosive Tooth Wear, Camille Kita

Biological Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses

This study aims to monitor and evaluate erosive tooth wear (ETW) by measurement of enamel surface thickness and texture in a clinical setting. The objective approach is fundamentally different from the standard subjective visual assessment that professionals in the dental field using the Basic Erosive Wear Evaluation (BEWE) method.

Twenty-nine hyposalivation and three control subjects were used in this longitudinal study, for a total of 597 samples (only 577 teeth were eligible for surface texture analysis) evaluated in a longitudinal study including both baseline and 12 month follow up surfaces. Each participant’s buccal surface of the tooth was first analyzed …

Effect Of Taper And Pitch On Nickle-Titanium File With Variable Cross Section To Its Cyclic Fatigue (In Silico Study), Yustika Chrysandra, Tunjung Nugraheni, Wignyo Hadriyanto

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

The geometric design of an endodontic file includes cross-sectional shape, taper, and pitch. NiTi endodontic files of OneCurve (MicroMega) are made of two variations of cross-sectional shape, that is, double-s shaped and triple helix. Various kinds of modifications were made to increase the resistance of the NiTi endodontic files from fracture. Cyclic fatigue is the most common factor that causes a fracture of the endodontic file. Objective: The purpose of this study was to obtain a NiTi endodontic file design that has the best cyclic resistance value based on its taper size and number of pitch. Methods: This …

Methods: This is a true experimental study with randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Eighteen freshly extracted straight single-rooted mandibular first premolars were confirmed by CBCT and selected. The teeth were decoronated until a length of 16 ± 0.5mm. The teeth were prepared and obturated using gutta-percha and bioceramic sealer with a hydraulic condensation technique. Pre-instrumentation CBCT imaging of all teeth was carried out to obtain the initial volume of …

Mathematical Modeling For Dental Decay Prevention In Children And Adolescents, Mahdiyeh Soltaninejad Apr 2024

Mathematical Modeling For Dental Decay Prevention In Children And Adolescents, Mahdiyeh Soltaninejad

Dissertations

The high prevalence of dental caries among children and adolescents, especially those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, is a significant nationwide health concern. Early prevention, such as dental sealants and fluoride varnish (FV), is essential, but access to this care remains limited and disparate. In this research, a national dataset is utilized to assess sealants' reach and effectiveness in preventing tooth decay, particularly focusing on 2nd molars that emerge during early adolescence, a current gap in the knowledge base. FV is recommended to be delivered during medical well-child visits to children who are not seeing a dentist. Challenges and facilitators in …

Surface Modifications Of Orthodontic Bone Screws - A Novel Approach, Sai Kalyan Menta Dr, Ravi M. S Feb 2024

Surface Modifications Of Orthodontic Bone Screws - A Novel Approach, Sai Kalyan Menta Dr, Ravi M. S

Annual Research Symposium

Anchorage control plays a key role in the correction of malocclusion. With the advent of orthodontic bone screws, attaining absolute anchorage control has become hassle free. They have the advantages of low cost, simple surgical placement, and ease of removal; therefore, they are convenient in the treatment of various malocclusions. Although the clinical stability of bone screws is exceptionally high, stability of the bone screws is compromised by factors such as microbial contamination and morphological defects. To overcome this, surface modifications are introduced to enhance the stability of the bone screws.

Clinical Success Of Restorations With Bioactive And Non-Bioactive Materials: Systematic Review And Network Meta-Analysis, Juliana Benace Fernandes, Sheila Mondragón Contreras, Eduardo Bresciani, Taciana Marco Ferraz Caneppele

Annual Research Symposium

The oral cavity is a complex and dynamic environment with frequent pH and temperature changes that can affect the longevity of dental restorations. Consequently, bioactive restorative materials, capable of advantageous interactions with the oral environment and dental tissues, are promising alternatives. However, there is limited scientific evidence of their clinical performance. Therefore, we conducted this systematic review and network meta-analysis of clinical studies to address the research question: Does the clinical evaluation of restorations on permanent teeth with bioactive materials show greater success rates than those with non-bioactive materials?

Oral focal mucinosis is a rare lesion with less than 60 cases reported in English literature so far, to the best of our knowledge. It is considered to be the oral counterpart of cutaneous focal mucinosis and/or cutaneous myxoid cyst. Histopathologically, Oral focal mucinosis is demonsterates a well-circumscribed area of myxomatous connective tissue containing mucinous material, surrounded by denser collagenous connective tissue. We present a case of Oral focal mucinosis occurring on the buccal gingiva of the lower jaw.
