The purpose of the present study was to examine the walking phases in horses using the OptoGait system, which works with optical sensors. In this pilot study, 52 healthy horses were used. For each horse, an average of 45 steps were examined. The stance phase, swing phase, step distance, and walking speeds of the horses were recorded. The stance phase of each step was examined in a separate manner in 3 steps: contact phase, foot flat, and propulsive phase. In poultry, the nervous system has many differences among species. The intumescentia lumbosacralis is one of the enlargements of the medulla spinalis, and the lumbosacral plexus originates from here. The nerves which are responsible for the innervation of the hind limbs and pelvic region originate in the lumbosacral plexus. It is crucial to bring domestic animal breeds to production and to produce meat based on sectoral structure. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of age, housing condition, and feeding style on fattening performance, comfort, and carcass characteristics of the Eastern Anatolian Red (EAR) bulls, a native breed which is suitable for adverse environmental conditions and marginal land as well as resistant to diseases. The study was conducted to determine the effect of laying period on egg quality traits as well as the chemical composition of Lindovskaya geese. The egg quality traits were examined by randomly taking a total of 90 eggs on the 45th ± 5, 60th ± 5, and 75th ± 5 days of the laying period from 3-year-old female Lindovskaya geese. The objective was to evaluate the effects of clinical mastitis (CM) on reproductive performance in high-milk?producing cows before the service period. The data of Holstein Friesian cows (n = 550) in a commercial farm was retrospectively evaluated. The diagnosis of CM was made by the presence of visible abnormalities in milk or symptoms of inflammation of one or more of the quarters. Cows were checked to detect CM prior to each milking. The goal of this study was to develop a method for the diagnosis of latent respiratory failure in calves with bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in farm conditions. The study involved 48 calves of the red-motley Holstein breed aged 14-28 days, with no previously experienced BRD, no dyspnea at rest, and a lack of anemia. Modified killed vaccines against bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) are used worldwide. In the present study, the cross-neutralization antibody responses against field strains from seven subgenotypes of BVDV-1 and one subgenotype of BVDV-2 were evaluated using sera obtained by three inactivated commercial vaccines. One vaccine contained both BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 strains, while the others contained only BVDV-1a. Three vaccine groups, each containing five calves, were vaccinated two times with 30-day intervals. The antibody titers were evaluated by virus neutralization assay. The monovalent vaccine induced the highest antibody titers. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of SV technology on conception rates in repeat breeder multiparous dairy cows. Seventy-nine multiparous Holstein cows from a private dairy farm were used in the study. These animals were cows that had failed to conceive from at least 3 regularly spaced services (repeat breeders). Estrus cycles of the cows were synchronized by 2 injections of the PG analogue, administered 11 days apart. GnRH was applied 48 h after the second injection of PG. Effects Of Supplementary Nano-Zno On In Vitro Ruminal Fermentation, Methane Release, Antioxidants, And Microbial Biomass, Hassan Riazi, Javad Rezaei, Yousef Rouzbehan

The effects of nano-ZnO on in vitro ruminal fermentation, methane release, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and microbial biomass production (MBP) were assessed using an in vitro gas production technique. Treatments included a control diet and diets containing 20, 40, or 60 mg of supplemental Zn per kg dry matter (DM) as ZnO or nano-ZnO. As a result of this study, supplementation of 20 mg of Zn as nano-ZnO, similar to ZnO, decreased methane production and protozoa enumeration but improved (P < 0.05) TAC, MBP, digestibility and truly degraded substrate (TDS). As compared with the control treatment, adding the supplementary Zn had no effect on partitioning factor, MBP efficiency, pH, and ammonia-N (P > 0.05). Thirty-five Anatolian water buffalo were selected from among a total of almost 7000 animals from 11 herds in the Kızılırmak Delta, which is known to be one of the most important areas for water buffalo farming in Turkey. The cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) method was used to identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms at 3 loci that are associated with milk production, namely PRL, CSN3, and PIT-1, which are associated with milk processing and milk yields, respectively. Sequence-tagged sites of PRL, CSN3, and PIT-1 were digested by restriction endonucleases RsaI, HindIII, and HinfI, respectively. Effect Of Exercise On Some Minerals, Metabolites And Enzyme Activities In The Serum Of Trained Arabian Horses, Roya Pourmohammad, Mehrdad Mohri, Hesam Seifi, Kamran Sardari

The exercise-induced variations of some biochemical parameters including calcium (Ca), phosphorous (P), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), selenium (Se), zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chlorine (Cl), glucose, urea, creatinine, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and creatine kinase (CK) were assessed in the serum of 25 Arabian horses. Blood samples were taken from the jugular vein 3 different times: before exercise, 5 h after exercise, and 18 h after exercise. Statistical analysis was performed using SAS (version 9.2; SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA). Ca, Cl, glucose, and urea showed significant (P < 0.05) changes due to exercise. There was significant increase from before exercise to 5 h after exercise in urea concentrations while Ca and Cl concentrations significantly decreased. A significant ascending trend for Ca between 5 h and 18 h after exercise was also seen, while glucose and urea had a significantly descending trend. No significant time-based variations were observed for other variables. The results of the present study indicated that exercise could affect the value of some biochemical parameters, which could be used in future studies evaluating the health status of Arabian horses.

Abdominal ultrasound is frequently performed as part of initial staging of canine mammary tumors. The aims of this study were to describe abdominal ultrasonographic findings present at diagnosis of mammary tumors in dogs and to assess their value for associations with histopathological results and treatment outcome. The medical records of 201 female dogs diagnosed with mammary tumors that had abdominal ultrasonography performed as part of their initial clinical evaluation were reviewed. Histopathological diagnosis of malignant mammary tumors was obtained in most cases (86%; 172 cases). One hundred and fifty-seven animals (78%) had some ultrasonographic abnormality. In this study, we established the components of the buffalo spermatogonial stem cell (SSC) niche in prenatal (38.5-280 days of gestation), neonatal, prepubertal, and adult testes histochemically and immunohistochemically. Immunohistochemically, the changes in vimentin expression were evaluated. During prenatal life, the niche of primordial germ cells was formed by the surrounding mesenchymal cells and fibroblasts. The basement membrane (BM) was not organized at this stage. At 7.6 cm crown-rump length, testicular cords with a thin BM were seen. Medium chain fatty acid (MCFA) application has been identified as a promising strategy to decrease viral pathogen transmission in swine feed.
