Canine dystocia is a relatively common veterinary presentation. First opinion emergency care clinical data from 50 Vets Now clinics across the UK were used to explore dystocia management and outcomes in bitches. Caesarean section (CS) was performed on 341/701 (48.6 per cent (95 per cent CI 44.9 to 52.4)) of dystocia cases. The bulldog (OR 7.60, 95 per cent CI 1.51 to 38.26, P=0.014), Border terrier (OR 4.89, 95 per cent CI 0.92 to 25.97, P=0.063) and golden retriever (OR 4.07, 95 per cent CI 0.97 to 17.07, P=0.055) had the highest odds of CS among dystocic bitches compared with …

The patient in this case report was a male Golden Retriever dog, approximately 5 years of age, found in woodlands and presenting with an inability to use the right hindlimb. In craniocaudal and mediolateral radiographs taken of the patient, presence of an old comminuted fracture caused by a firearm injury was observed in the right femoral condyle. A custom-made trochlear groove of suitable dimensions for the patient was produced. The patient tip-toed on postoperative day 1 and was seen to be mostly weight-bearing by day 7. The lameness was determined to have lessened to a great extent after 1 month …

A Case Of Ex Vivo Boosted Immune Cell Therapy For Chronic Ulcerative Dermatitis In A Dog, Seulgi Bae
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
A 13-year-old castrated male Shih Tzu was presented with recurrent otitis externa and ulcerative dermatitis. Previous investigations had failed to identify the cause, and the lesion was resistant to treatment. According to the histopathological examination, a tentative diagnosis of chronic ulcerative dermatitis with bacterial infection was made. To treat the patient, immune cell therapy with antibiotics was conducted every 2 weeks, for a total of six sessions. After treatment, the skin lesion resolved. No side effects were observed during therapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of the use of immune cell therapy for …

Assessment Of Asymmetric Dimethyl Arginine, Cardiac Troponin I, Thyroxine, Cholesterol, And Triglyceride Levels In Obese Dogs And Dogs With Normal Body Condition, Hüseyi̇n Ci̇han, Merve Tural
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study was to assess serum asymmetric dimethyl arginine (ADMA), cardiac troponin I (cTnI), thyroxine (T4), cholesterol and triglyceride (TG) levels in dogs with normal body condition and obese dogs. A total of 40 dogs (n = 40) were included in the study and dogs were divided into two groups; 20 dogs with normal body condition and 20 obese dogs. The dogs were grouped according to the five-point body-condition scoring (BCS) system. Serum ADMA, cTnI, T4, cholesterol, and TG levels were measured in addition to routine biochemical parameters. Serum ADMA, cTnI, TG, and cholesterol levels were statistically …

Cyanoacrylate Tissue Adhesive For The Management Of Corneal Perforation In Dogs:A Report Of Three Cases, Je-Hwan Jang, Joon Young Kim
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Corneal perforation can cause profound vision loss and requires immediate treatment. Bandage contact lens insertion and gluing are temporary treatment methods. However, if the patient cannot undergo surgery for a variety of reasons, these methods are inevitably used as permanent treatment methods. The use of cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive (CTA) for the management of corneal perforation in humans has been reported for several decades. Here we describe, for the first time as per our knowledge, the use of CTA (Vetbond) for the management of corneal perforation with a diameter of

Abdominal ultrasound is frequently performed as part of initial staging of canine mammary tumors. The aims of this study were to describe abdominal ultrasonographic findings present at diagnosis of mammary tumors in dogs and to assess their value for associations with histopathological results and treatment outcome. The medical records of 201 female dogs diagnosed with mammary tumors that had abdominal ultrasonography performed as part of their initial clinical evaluation were reviewed. Histopathological diagnosis of malignant mammary tumors was obtained in most cases (86%; 172 cases). One hundred and fifty-seven animals (78%) had some ultrasonographic abnormality. A total of 338 ultrasonographic …
