Docking, Synthesis Of Some Novel Flavonoid Analogues, And Their Biological Evaluation, Ishwar Bhat K, Afiya Abdul Aziz, Abhishek Kumar, Vijaya Bhaskar K, Vijay Kumar M

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Cancer remains a major class of morbidity and mortality despite basic and clinical research and trials of promising new therapies. In the current era, many drugs are marketed with flavonoid nucleus. Based on this information, this study aims to synthesize and screen flavones for their anticancer activity. Docking studies for cytotoxic activity of flavonoid derivatives targeting tankyrase enzyme were performed. A new series of flavonoid derivatives were prepared from chalcones. Chalcones were prepared between substituted benzaldehyde and 2-hydroxy acetophenone in the presence of potassium hydroxide as catalyst. The flavone derivatives were characterized based on IR, 1H NMR, and Mass spectral …

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Hepatoprotective and antioxidant potential of hydromethanolic extract of Rivina humilis L. fruit (HMERH) was studied using the carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and paracetamol (PCM) induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats. In both models, rats were divided into five groups having six rats in each. Group I received distilled water. Group II, disease control, Group III received 100 mg/kg of Silymarin. Group IV and Group V received 500, 1000 mg/kg of HMERH. All groups except Group II received treatment twice daily for 7 days. CCl4 (1.5 mL/kg, PCM (2 g/kg), p.o) were administered after the last dose. The degree of liver protection against …

Vegetable Oil-Based Cannabis: Its Cannabinoid Profiling And Photoprotective Effect On Uva-Irradiated Human Skin Keratinocytes, Nur Alfan Muhammad Zen, Kwanlada Kobtrakul, Petlada Khositanon, Kittipong Sanookpan, Visarut Buranasudja, Sornkanok Vimolmangkang

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Vegetable oils serve as affordable, non-toxic, and eco-friendly solvents for plant extraction. Chemical fingerprinting shows that vegetable oil-based cannabis has a cannabinoid profile similar to that of organic solvent-based cannabis. All samples possess antioxidative effects as they contain several cannabinoids and other unidentified compounds, with rice bran oil-based sample exhibiting the strongest effect. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) content in sesame oil-based and perilla seed oil-based cannabis differed significantly from that in virgin coconut oil (VCO)-based cannabis. In addition, THC and CBD content in all vegetable oil-based samples prepared using the heating and frying method differed significantly from that in …

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Background: The current study is the first study that investigated the potential of phenolic-rich fraction of Pandanus tectorius fruits as an anti-inflammatory agent. The fruit is rich in phenolic compounds, especially from the flavonoids group. Phenolics are known to contribute to an anti-inflammatory activity. Objectives: The first objective of the study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory potency of phenolic-rich fractions of P. tectorius fruits by in vitro and in vivo studies. The second was to investigate the cytotoxicity against RAW264.7 cell lines, antioxidant, and phenolic contents to support the experiment. Materials and Methods: Sample fractionation was done with hexane, ethyl …

Pueraria Candollei Var. Mirifica: A Precious Source Of Pharmaceuticals And Cosmeceuticals, Dolly Rani, Khwanlada Kobtrakul, Sornkanok Vimolmangkang Jan 2022

Pueraria Candollei Var. Mirifica: A Precious Source Of Pharmaceuticals And Cosmeceuticals, Dolly Rani, Khwanlada Kobtrakul, Sornkanok Vimolmangkang

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Pueraria candollei var. mirifica (Airy Shaw & Suvat.) Niyomdham (PM), popularly known as “Kwao Krua,” is a medicinal plant that has been used for centuries in Thailand. Phytochemical studies indicated the presence of several bioactive molecules such as miroestrol, deoxymiroestrol, puerarin, daidzein, daidzin, genistin, genistein, and kwakhurin. The pharmacological evaluation of PM indicated strong estrogenic, anti-osteoporosis effects, anti-aging and antioxidant activities, as well as the ability to relieve other climacteric-related symptoms. There is conflicting evidence on the safety and toxicity of PM. The active ingredients in PM make it an ideal candidate for large-scale pharmaceutical exploitation as a cosmeceutical. Further …

The Benefits Of Astaxanthin To Improve Pain Relief In Patients With Painful Diabetic Neuropathy: An Open-Label, Randomized Controlled Trial, Rizaldy Taslim Pinzon, Mary Rose Angelina Budi Harsana Dec 2021

The Benefits Of Astaxanthin To Improve Pain Relief In Patients With Painful Diabetic Neuropathy: An Open-Label, Randomized Controlled Trial, Rizaldy Taslim Pinzon, Mary Rose Angelina Budi Harsana

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

Treatment of diabetic neuropathy is still carried out by providing symptomatic therapy, which only improves ± 50% of the total symptoms felt by patients, but does not tackle the underlying causes of the disease. Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic carotenoid that could be an additional treatment option. We aimed to measure the effectiveness of administering astaxanthin as an additional therapy to improve the impact of pain and discomfort experienced daily by diabetes mellitus patients with painful diabetic neuropathy. We conducted a randomized experimental study with an open label design of 36 patients who had been diagnosed with …

Systematic Development By The Design-Of-Experiment Approach And Physicochemical Evaluations Of The Optimized Self-Microemulsifying Astaxanthin Delivery System, Mo Mo Ko Zin, Veerakiet Boonkanokwong Jan 2021

Systematic Development By The Design-Of-Experiment Approach And Physicochemical Evaluations Of The Optimized Self-Microemulsifying Astaxanthin Delivery System, Mo Mo Ko Zin, Veerakiet Boonkanokwong

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

A self-microemulsifying delivery system (SMEDS) containing astaxanthin (AST) was developed and optimized using a mixture design and its desirability function. Independent factors studied in the experimental design were the amounts of castor oil, Cremophor® RH 40, and Tween® 80 in a formula. The measured response variables included droplet size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, active ingredient content, and transmittance of microemulsions obtained from the AST SMEDS formulations. The desirability function was then adjusted to optimize the formulation. The optimized AST SMEDS was composted of 19.59% castor oil, 62.34% Cremophor® RH 40, and 18.03% Tween® 80, and the resulting self microemulsions …
