Portable bright light units, the Boeing Alertness Model (BAM) and Jeppessen Crew Alert application have been introduced in a field study with long haul pilots and cabin crew in ground breaking research – which may lead to improvements in aviation safety through the development of new preventive alertness strategies. Western Michigan University, Novair Airlines, Nature Bright, Jeppesen Crew Alert and leading sleep scientists collaborated to examine whether timed blue light integrated with the Boeing Alertness Model will improve alertness, and mitigate cognitive fatigue.
