Storage Behavior And Cryopreservation Studies In Indian Rough Lemon (Citrus Jambhiri): A Promising Rootstock For Long-Term Conservation, Mony Radhika Rohini, Surendra Kumar Malik, Ravish Choudhary, Sukhdeep Kaur, Ajit Uchoi, Rekha Chaudhury

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The study of the seed storage behavior and cryopreservation of embryonic axes was attempted in Citrus jambhiri genotypes using air desiccation-freezing, vitrification, and encapsulation-dehydration methods. Seeds of this species revealed nonorthodox seed storage behavior with moderate seed longevity and sensitivity to desiccation and freezing. Successful cryopreservation was achieved with all three methods using embryonic axes; however, the recovery growth percentage significantly differed among these methods. Cryopreservation was efficient for the embryonic axes desiccated to 13%-15% moisture content. Freezing of embryonic axes at this moisture content in liquid nitrogen showed a good recovery rate of 40%-50%. In the vitrification method, embryonic …

Determination Of In-Row Seed Distribution Uniformity Using Image Processing, Engi̇n Çakir, İkbal Aygün, Arzu Yazgi, Yi̇ği̇t Karabulut

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to determine the seed distribution uniformity of seeding machines using a low sensitivity (maximum 300 frames per second (fps)) high-speed camera and image processing method for corn, cotton, and wheat seeds under laboratory conditions. For this purpose, a high-speed camera with 100, 200, and 300 fps was used to measure the seed drop from the seeding tube onto the sticky belt. Video images then were transferred to the image processing algorithm, from which seed distribution can be calculated. The calculated measurements were compared statistically with the measurements obtained from sticky belt tests. According to …

The Effects Of Different Nitrogen And Phosphorus Doses On Essentialoil Components Of Some Mentha Genotypes, Meryem Yeşi̇l, Kemaletti̇n Kara Jan 2016

The Effects Of Different Nitrogen And Phosphorus Doses On Essentialoil Components Of Some Mentha Genotypes, Meryem Yeşi̇l, Kemaletti̇n Kara

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The present study was conducted in Erzurum during the years 2010 and 2011 to determine the effects of different nitrogen and phosphorus doses on essential oil components of spearmint genotypes (Mentha spicata L. and Mentha villoso-nervata Opiz.). Two genotypes of Mentha spicata (genotypes 2 and 6) and one genotype of Mentha villoso-nervata (genotype 4) were tested under three nitrogen and phosphorus doses (0, 50, and 100 kg/ha) in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Essential oil components of the genotypes were determined and subjected to variance analysis. Effects of experimental year and nitrogen and phosphorus doses on investigated …

Determination Of Antioxidant, Total Phenolic, Total Carotenoid, Lycopene, Ascorbic Acid, And Sugar Contents Of Citrus Species And Mandarin Hybrids, İhsan Canan, Müttali̇p Gündoğdu, Ubeyi̇t Seday, Celi̇le Ayli̇n Oluk, Zafer Karaşahi̇n, Evren Çağlar Eroğlu, Ebru Yazici, Mustafa Ünlü

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study aimed to determine the antioxidant capacity; the total phenolic, total carotenoid, sugar, and ascorbic acid contents; and some pomological characteristics of Citrus species (Citrus reticulata, Citrus sinensis, and Citrus paradisi) and mandarin (Citrus reticulata) and their new hybrids developed for yield at the Alata Horticultural Research Institute in Mersin, Turkey. With respect to antioxidant capacities, the highest value (45.28 µmol TE/100 g) was determined in Cocktail (Citrus paradisi) cultivar fruits among all examined cultivars and hybrids. We found that 7-19 (Clementine x Kara) mandarin hybrids had the highest total phenolic content (386.81 mg gallic acid equivalent/g) and the …

Nondestructive Determination Of Spruce Lumber Wood Density Using Drilling Resistance (Resistograph) Method, Bi̇lgi̇n İçel, Gürcan Güler Jan 2016

Nondestructive Determination Of Spruce Lumber Wood Density Using Drilling Resistance (Resistograph) Method, Bi̇lgi̇n İçel, Gürcan Güler

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The use of Resistograph for the purpose of nondestructive evaluation of certain properties of standing trees and wooden materials has increased in recent years. The resistance to penetration of a fine drill bit is measured and recorded by the device. A number of properties of the wood can be assessed by the amplitude values obtained from the Resistograph. The aim of this study was to assess the utility of the IML-Resistograph F 500 as a nondestructive tool for estimating spruce wood density using the amplitude data generated and the application of statistical modeling. Wood density data were determined using a …

Effects Of High Temperature Stress On Enzymatic And Nonenzymaticantioxidants And Proteins In Strawberry Plants, Sergül Ergi̇n, Hati̇ce Gülen, Müge Kesi̇ci̇, Ece Turhan, Ahmet İpek, Nezi̇he Köksal Jan 2016

Effects Of High Temperature Stress On Enzymatic And Nonenzymaticantioxidants And Proteins In Strawberry Plants, Sergül Ergi̇n, Hati̇ce Gülen, Müge Kesi̇ci̇, Ece Turhan, Ahmet İpek, Nezi̇he Köksal

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The mechanism of tolerance to high temperatures was investigated in two strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch) cultivars, 'Redlands Hope' ('R. Hope', heat tolerant) and 'Cal. Giant 3' ('CG3', heat sensitive). Leaves were collected from plants that were exposed to gradual heat stress and heat-shock stress separately. The contents of nonenzymatic antioxidants such as ascorbic acid (AsA) and glutathione (GSH) and the activities of enzymatic antioxidants such as ascorbate peroxidase (APX) (EC 1.11.1.11), catalase (CAT) (EC 1.11.1.6), and glutathione reductase (GR) (EC. 1.6.4.2) were measured followed by heat treatments. Additionally, proline content was determined, and heat shock proteins (HSPs) were analyzed …
