The fundamental purpose of this paper is to present the picture of early food economy among the Indians of the Plains. In order to accomplish this task the procedure has been to present: (1) a brief study of the tribal groups with special emphasis upon their early history and movements, followed by (2) a general picture of Plains food economy with regard to the sequence and tribal units.
