Regeneration Of The Tentacles And Eyes Of The Marine Snail Ilyanassa Obsoleta Stimpson, W. Ernest Collins Jr.
Regeneration Of The Tentacles And Eyes Of The Marine Snail Ilyanassa Obsoleta Stimpson, W. Ernest Collins Jr.
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The study consisted of two major steps: (1) A macroscopic study was undertaken to determine whether or not the eye and tentacles of a gastropod which exhibits a mosaic development pattern could regenerate. (2) A study was undertaken using histological techniques to determine the detailed step-by-step process of regeneration of the eye and tentacle in Ilyanassa obsoleta.

Investigation In The Physiology Of The Spore Formation Of Pseudoples Trifolii (Rostr.) And Petr., Emory S. Crosby
Investigation In The Physiology Of The Spore Formation Of Pseudoples Trifolii (Rostr.) And Petr., Emory S. Crosby
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Plant pathologists have worked to some extent for many years in an attempt to describe the complete physiology of the organism responsible for pepper spot of clover, particularly as found on white clover (Trifolium repens, L.). These works have not been extensive or concentrated and at the present time, no definite conclusions have been reached.
The causal agent of pepper spot of clover is Pseudoples trifolii (Rostr.).
Pseudoples trifolii usually is found parasitizing clover in the early spring and continues throughout the spring until the temperature exceeds thirty degrees centigrade. Elliott established that Pseudoples trifolii will not produce infectious spores …

A Comparative Histological Study Of The Eyes Of Certain Cave Animals, William Owsley
A Comparative Histological Study Of The Eyes Of Certain Cave Animals, William Owsley
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
As early as 1850 many reports of observations of the blind cave animals were made by both scientific and popular writers. Tellkempf, Agassiz, Forbes and Silliman were some of the earlier scientists who studied the eyes of cave animals. Eigenmann made a histological study of the cave vertebrates of America. In a study of Forbesichthys papilliferus, a semi-blind cave fish, Jennie Miller Orr found important structural modifications in the eyes of this species. Since no comparative histological studies of the eyes of cave animals seem to have been made, it was decided to make such a study with a view …
The Phaenogams Of Western Kentucky University State Teachers College, Gertrude Raymond
The Phaenogams Of Western Kentucky University State Teachers College, Gertrude Raymond
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The campus of Western Kentucky State Teachers College was laid out in 1910 by Mr. Henry Wright, landscape architect, with the view of planting ornamental shrubs and woody and herbaceous plants indigenous to Kentucky. In more recent years the gardens on the grounds of the Kentucky Building have been planted with many species of Kentucky plants.
This study was undertaken for the purpose of making a scientific classification of the flowering plants on the campus of Western Kentucky State Teachers College.
Studies On A Cave Fish Of Uncertain Classification, Jennie Miller Orr
Studies On A Cave Fish Of Uncertain Classification, Jennie Miller Orr
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The specimens studied during this investigation were taken incidentally during a general faunal survey of certain peculiar streams flowing from underground channels. On casual examination it was evident that they belonged to the cave fish group but were not the well known almost colorless blind variety. After checking the descriptions in various vertebrate manuals it appeared that they were probably a new species.
There are three groups of cave fishes, the non-blind, the semi-blind and the blind. Chologaster, or the Rice Field Minnows of South Carolina, are members of the non-blind group. Forbesichthys of southern Illinois and Kentucky is an …
Fishes Of The Mammoth Cave Region, John Sterling Jackson
Fishes Of The Mammoth Cave Region, John Sterling Jackson
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Extensive surveys of the ichthyological fauna have been made for states bordering Kentucky. An investigation of the literature pertaining to the ichthyology of Kentucky discloses the fact that no detailed investigation has been made of fish life in this state, especially western Kentucky. No record is available of any survey having been made in the section known as the Mammoth Cave Region.
The purpose of this survey was to make a species and ecological study of the fishes of the Mammoth Cave Region. Extensive opportunity for ecological studies exists in this region, but only the most important factors were included …
The Relation Of The Native Forest Cover To The Physical And Chemical Nature Of The Soils Of The Mammoth Cave National Park Area, Sheppard Walker
The Relation Of The Native Forest Cover To The Physical And Chemical Nature Of The Soils Of The Mammoth Cave National Park Area, Sheppard Walker
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining the relation existing between the native forest cover and the chemical and physical properties of the soils of the Mammoth Cave National Park area. The study was suggested by certain references in the literature to a correlation existing between forest cover and the geological, chemical and physical nature of soils of this area. The recent attempt at reforestation in the Mammoth Cave National Park area renders such a study timely, and it is believed that the results reported in this paper will materially aid the Mammoth Cave National Park Commission and …
