Rna Sequencing Analysis Of The Developing Chicken Retina, Christophe Langouet-Astrie*, Annamarie Meinsen*, Emily R. Grunwald*, Stephen Turner, Raymond A. Enke

Ray Enke Ph.D.

RNA sequencing transcriptome analysis using massively parallel next generation sequencing technology provides the capability to understand global changes in gene expression throughout a range of tissue samples. Development of the vertebrate retina requires complex temporal orchestration of transcriptional activation and repression. The chicken embryo (Gallus gallus) is a classic model system for studying developmental biology and retinogenesis. Existing retinal transcriptome projects have been critical to the vision research community for studying aspects of murine and human retinogenesis, however, there are currently no publicly available data sets describing the developing chicken retinal transcriptome. Here we used Illumina RNA sequencing …

Characterization Of An Ethylene Receptor In Synechocystis Sp. Pcc 6803, Randy Francis Lacey Aug 2016

Characterization Of An Ethylene Receptor In Synechocystis Sp. Pcc 6803, Randy Francis Lacey

Doctoral Dissertations

In plants, ethylene functions as a hormone regulating many growth and developmental processes. Ethylene receptors in plants resemble bacterial two-component signaling systems. Because of this it, ethylene receptors are thought to have been acquired by gene transfer from the cyanobacterial endosymbiont that lead to the development of the chloroplast. However, prior to this work, functional ethylene receptors were thought to only be found in green plants. Here, we show that the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (Synechocystis) contains a functional ethylene receptor, SynEtr1. SynEtr1 contains a predicted ethylene binding domain, a photosensory cyanobacteriochrome (CBCR) domain, and a histidine …

Towards The Complete Small Rnome Of Acinetobacter Baumannii, Andy Weiss, William H. Broach, Mackenzie C. Lee, Lindsey N. Shaw

Molecular Biosciences Faculty Publications

In recent years, the Gram-negative bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii has garnered considerable attention for its unprecedented capacity to rapidly develop resistance to antibacterial therapeutics. This is coupled with the seemingly epidemic emergence of new hyper-virulent strains. Although strain-specific differences for A. baumannii isolates have been well described, these studies have primarily focused on proteinaceous factors. At present, only limited publications have investigated the presence and role of small regulatory RNA (sRNA) transcripts. Herein, we perform such an analysis, describing the RNA-seq-based identification of 78 A. baumannii sRNAs in the AB5075 background. Together with six previously identified elements, we include each of …
